Cherry Mobile Cosmos S

In case you live under a rock, Cherry Mobile recently launched their premium Cosmos lineup at the One Esplanade near SM Mall of Asia. Of the four, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos S just might be the sleeper hit. Why? Because the specs have that perfect balance that should make it great for gaming.

Both the Cherry Mobile Cosmos S and the Cosmos Z come with an MT6589T SoC, which is an overclocked version of the MT6589 that we’ve been seeing on a lot of the locally-branded quad core phones as of late. The difference is that the T variant is clocked at 1.5GHz while the more common MT6589 is only clocked at 1.2GHz. Also, the PowerVR SGX544 GPU on the T variant is likewise clocked higher at 357MHz compared to 286MHz on the regular MT6589.

So both of them should perform faster than the Cosmos X and X2, right? Well, no. Because the Cosmos Z has a higher Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, the GPU has to process more pixels, so the performance won’t be as fast as on the Cosmos S, which only has an HD (1280 x 720) resolution screen. To put things in perspective, that’s 2,073,600 pixels on the Cosmos Z vs 921,600 pixels on the Cherry Mobile Cosmos S. That’s more than twice the pixels that the GPU has to process on the Cosmos Z, so naturally, the Cosmos S might not have the sharper screen of the two, but it will certainly benefit from faster frame rates than any other phone from the Cosmos line.

Another key spec is the 2,500mAh battery. There’s some controversy about it being non-removable, but 2,500mAh is 2,500mAh, and that makes the Cherry Mobile Cosmos S the phone with the highest battery capacity from the Cosmos line. That should certainly give it better battery life over the Cosmos Z.

    1. actually, parang pareho lang naman sila pero parang mas mabilis si S gawa ng 1.5 MT6589T na chipset nya vs. ng sa iceberg na 1.2 MT6589 lang (accdg. sa review ng S at Z) tsaka 12mp lang back camera nya compared sa 18mp nitong S (i’ll go for 18mp), sa battery pareho lang naman sila: si S ay may 2,500maH and ok na siya for a 5″ hd dispaly while c iceberg naman ay may 2,600maH and good naman xa para sa 5.7″ display… so far, mas bet ko ang S though may mga flaws naman talaga siya like lack of sd card slot, unremovable baterry, and 1 sim lang pwede.

    1. Yung Cosmos X2 16gb din ang internal phone storage, ang natirang usable storage is 12.7gb Baka ganun din dyan sa Cosmos S
