Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z VS MyPhone Agua Iceberg

In case you missed it, Cherry Mobile recently launched the Cosmos series, consisting of four premium handsets. Of the four, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z is probably the one to look out for because it is the first locally branded phone to sport a Full HD screen.

It’s even protected by Gorilla Glass 2, which is a popular scratch- and shatterproof protective glass used by flagship phones from the big names like Samsung, LG and others that cost upwards of Php30k. So you’re getting a screen that is only typically seen on high end flagships on something that will only retail for Php11,999. Sweet.

Of course, the screen is just part of the story. The Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z is also powered by a quad core MediaTek MT6589T processor. It’s actually slightly different from the regular MT6589 SoC that is found on a lot of the locally branded quad core phones because the MT6589T is clocked at a faster 1.5GHz, while the MT6589 is only clocked at 1.2GHz. In addition, both versions of the MT6589 are coupled with a PowerVR SGX 544 GPU, but the “T” variant is clocked at 357MHz, while the one on the regular MT6589 variant is only clocked at 286MHz. Coupling the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z with the more powerful MT6589T variant ensures that performance remains smooth despite having more pixels to process.

Another notable feature is the 18mp BSI autofocus camera for the amateur photographer in you. Okay, so Cosmos Z’s camera might not be used for anything more than barkada shots or for Instagram, but at least you’ll get great camera performance, even in low light where normal smartphone camera sensors just won’t cut it. But if selfies are more your thing, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z also comes equipped with an 8mp front-facing camera. No more blurry profile pics!

UPDATE: Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z Review

The rest of the specs are what you’d expect from a high end locally branded smartphone. There’s 1Gb of RAM, 8Gb of internal storage, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and 3G/HSPA+. The battery is only rated at 2,000mAh, however, which is a bit of a concern considering the faster MediaTek SoC and higher resolution screen. Still, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z is quite impressive and possibly the best value you can get for a smartphone right now.

  1. Bought this disposable phone about two years ago. That’s about 9,600.00 at ngayon madami ng pwedeng mas magandang brand new phone na mabibili ang price na ‘to. It’s like saying, itapon mo na yan at bumili ka na lang ng ibang phone na hindi Cherry Mobile para mas makatipid ka.

Just my opinion, mahina talaga ang after sales service ng cherry mobile.

  2. tsambahan lang yan..kung may factory defect nakuha mo..MALAS MO..saka kahit anong tibay ng phone kung burara ren sa pag gamit “useless”.. i own cosmos z for almost 2 years now and i find this “sulit na ren binayad ko” and of course u need to reformat this phone ocassionally to boost,. deleted some unwanted files..about the battery..bili na lang power bank or bili extra bat.. kanya kanyang gamit lang yan..even a cheaper product can be compare (usage) to atleast “Branded” product if take”extra” care to that product!!! Well thatz what im thought..I give this phone OveraLL 7/10..

  3. 4990 nalang price neto ngayon e…. nakita ko lang sa isang kiosk nila dito sa robinson santiago…. paubos nalang daw nila stocks nila. gusto ko sanang bilhin, kaso nakita ko mga comments dito.. hahaha

  4. Cherry has very poor after sale service. I bought a brand new cosmos z last February 13. After exactly one month, march 13, the unit started to shut down by itself and the screen freezes from time to time. Every time it did, I had to remove the battery and switch it on. It would switch on but only upto the cherry logo or android logo. When that happens, I would need to remove the batt again and try my luck until it turns on completely. It happened more than 20 times that day that it turns off by itself and I had to remove the battery a hundred times and put it back, like you’re doing a trial and error just so it would boot up properly. It’s so frustrating. The next day, march 14, it worked normally again. But when the night came, it turned off by itself again and I couldn’t turn it on anymore no matter how many times I remove the battery. It wouldn’t charge as well. So the next morning I went to the cherry mobile service center in sm north annex. They said the phone will go through observation for 2-3 days and they will keep me posted. They’ve set expections that the repair may take upto 1 month because they still have to order parts since it’s more likely that the problem was the motherboard itself and not the software. I got a text the next 3 days telling me ” initial repair process will take 3-4 weeks.” How nice, right??? 3-4 weeks just for the initial repair?! I bought it for almost 12k and just after a month this is all I’m gonna get. More than a month without a phone, 12 k gone??! They won’t allow refund either or replacement. The phone was handled with care and I never dropped it, nor short- circuit. It was completely fine until that day of march 13. So frustrating. And one more thing, cherry phones heat up fast, use it for 5 mins and it would feel hot on your hand like hot coffee, charge it for 5 mins, even hotter.

    1. yup.. exactly what happend to my unit.. it overheats and freezes until it shut down.. i need to wait for 1 hour to switch it on again.. right now my unit is at customer service.. and it takes a month or two to repair it.. such a waste of time and money for this unit!

    2. Hi I have the same issue with you guys, do you have any suggestion for this problem? I am sick and tired of this issue.

    1. oo nga 2gb lng..san b pwede mag reklamo?..pandaraya naman gnagawa nila…2 gb lng talaga internal..samantlang 8 gb nakalagay pati sa box…help plsss…

      1. it’s like this (i think) it’s a total of 8gig internal memory. 6 GB might be reserved as a ROM kaya 2 gig left as usable. ROM means read-only-memory basically jan nakastore ung firmware ng cellphone kaya di xa rightable.

  5. ganda sana ng cosmos z…. kaso not all of my apps of my previous one x+ can handle :C like tap sonic.. favorite ko pa naman un at samurai vengence…. laging force close… amf… pero infairness sa linaw e wala akong masasabe… need lang talaga ng adroid tweaker para mawala ung random lags :) nice phone
