The more affordable option of O+ USA’s two upcoming models in the quadcore Fab smartphone series, the new O+ Fab Turbo is a 6-inch phablet powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It’s aimed for the mid-range market with a price tag of just Php13,995.

Smaller than the Fab Elite, the O+ Fab Turbo is basically the O+ alternative to the Samsung Mega 5.8 phablet. While most specs are the same (dual-SIM configuration with dual standby, OS version, connectivity features), the Turbo comes with a slightly more powerful front camera, bigger display with wide-angle viewing, and larger battery capacity. On the other hand, the larger internal storage capacity seems to be the only advantage the Mega has over Turbo.

O+ Fab Turbo Specs

  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • 6-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen (720×1280), ~245ppi
  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage
  • microSD support up to 32GB
  • 1GB RAM (unverified)
  • 8-megapixel main camera, with autofocus and LED flash
  • 2-megapixel front camera
  • Wi-Fi
  • 2G, 3G
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • 2800 mAh battery

As of this writing, there’s no official word on what component or GPU is handling graphics. The amount of RAM is unknown, too. We’ll be adding such information once the company releases an official specs list for the O+ Fab Turbo. In terms of size and weight, the handset should be similar to the Mega 5.8. It’s expected to be the PowerVR GPU and 1GB RAM though (Update: confirmed).

It’s also not clear what other software O+ USA is bundling besides the MP3/MP4 player. However, the O Plus Fab Turbo will reportedly come with Air Shuffle feature for smartphone navigation without having to touch the screen. Besides the music player, the usual apps that take advantage of the Air Shuffle are the customized camera and photo gallery apps.

The black variant of the O+ Fab Turbo is expected to go on sale for just Php13,995. No other colors have been announced so far. The handset will be released alongside the O+ Fab Elite to coincide with the holiday shopping season.
