Starmobile has unleashed its “lightest and most powerful 8-inch tablet” yet. The new Starmobile Engage 8 Quad+ is a 7.85-inch Android Jelly Bean tablet with an aluminium finish and a quad-core processor.

Yes, the Starmobile Engage 8 Quad+ is a quad-core tablet, specifically powered by a RockChip RK3188 processor that’s based on the ARM Cortex-A9 architecture. Starmobile’s other recently released tablets under the Engage family, such as the 9i and 7 Lite, have stayed with dual core CPUs. Whether having two more cores give the Engage 8 Quad+ a performance advantage over its siblings or not, we’ll know once the reviews arrive.

Starmobile Engage 8 Quad+ full specs

Other features of Starmobile Engage 8 Quad+ are multi-window support, a large 4000mAh battery, and HDMI output. For the users who are fussy even with the tiniest scratch marks on the screen, they’ll be happy to know that there are screen protectors included in the box.

But alas, there’s no 3G connectivity on the Starmobile Engage 8 Quad+ (a company rep even referred a Facebook commenter to the older Engage 8 3G when asked about this). To compensate, the Quad+ does have USB OTG compatibility so owners can connect flash drives and 3G dongles. Video calls via Skype should more than suffice for many users as well.

The Starmobile Engage 8 Quad+ is priced Php6,990, the same amount that the Engage 8 Quad (that’s another tablet but without the “+” sign) went for when it was released last year.
