Internet cafés in a barangay in Cavite can no longer offer the online game DOTA as one of their amenities, since the barangay officials have issued an ordinance to ban the game.

Defense of the Ancients or DOTA, which is a popular video game in the Philippine gaming community, has apparently become a bad influence to the youth that the officials of Barangay Salawag in Dasmariñas, Cavite decided to prohibit Internet cafés within their jurisdiction to install and offer the game.

You can see for yourself the ordinance below. According to the ordinance, DOTA players have resorted to deceive people and steal money just to play the game. There have also been incidents where gaming sessions led to physical violence and murder.

Internet café owners who are caught offering the game to their customers will have their business operations suspended for a month on their first offense. Second offense warrants revocation of business permit. On third offense, the Internet café faces permanent closure, and the owners lose their privilege to obtain future business permits.

Are the Baranagay Salawag officials right in banning DOTA? Or will their addicted youth just find other games to indulge themselves into?
