When it comes to budget phone offerings, Alcatel is no stranger. However, they might have a tough time trying to compete with our local brands. This was the thought that stuck in my head when I attended the launch of the Alcatel One Touch 2013 Q2 lineup a couple of days ago.

Two days to go and we’ll soon be entering 2013 so before this year ends, we’ll honor the smartphones that made a ‘bang’ in the Philippines. We will not be ranking them in terms of their overall functionality instead we’ll place them depending on their impact, number of sales, and specs to price ratio.
Okay, admittedly that’s kind of an overstatement, but a 1080p resolution and 440PPI (pixels per inch) on a 5″ screen? Are you kidding me? Well, that’s exactly what the Verizon-bound HTC Droid DNA will be shipping with: a 5″ Super LCD 3 Gorilla Glass 2-protected screen with a resolution that’s equivalent to one of the razor-sharp Full HD LED TVs that you wish you had in your living room!

It will also come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread installed (most likely there would be no update to Ice Cream Sandwich) which means there are a wide variety of applications and games you can choose from because of its more recent Android version.
