Two more of what Cherry Mobile calls its “best budget smartphones for first-time Android users” are now available. The Cherry Mobile Quartz and Ruby are 4-inch handsets with HSPA+ connectivity, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and dual core processor.

Cheaper of the two, the Cherry Mobile Quartz sets users back only Php2,499. As an introductory Android experience, this smartphone comes equipped with specs adequate enough for basic call and messaging functionalities and the occasional playing of mobile games. It also comes in a variety of colors.

The Cherry Mobile Ruby, on the other hand, costs Php2,899. The difference in price is mainly due to the Ruby’s larger internal storage and better rear camera. Nevertheless, this is still a dual core smartphone with a 4-inch display. Like the Quartz, you can’t expect this device to excel in performance beyond the basic apps and usage.

Cherry Mobile Quartz, Ruby specs

Other specs remain unknown. But by basing on the cheaper Amethyst, we can expect the screen resolution, amount of RAM, and battery capacity to be at least 320-by-480 (HVGA), 256MB, and 1200mAh, respectively.

Both the Cherry Mobile Quartz and Cherry Mobile Ruby should now be available at company kiosks and stores, as well as accredited dealers, nationwide. Every purchase of any of the two comes with a free Android key chain. With their announcement, the remaining smartphone gems that have yet to arrive are the Garnet, Emerald, and Onyx.

  1. sakin po brandew as in now lang pero ayaw mgconnect sa wifi, i-oon lang tapos wala na di mgccoonnect. as in black. pati ung bluetooth. help naman po

  2. Good day you all! I bought Cherry Mobile Quartz for almost 3 weeks from now (May 20, 2014) and here’s my review for it.

    Pros

    1. Good screen (4 inches) like WTH it is has a good screen same with my Galaxy S2!

    2. Accurate Touch Screen and A big screen = wide spaces to touch good for playing games :)

    3. Can play games such as temple run and my personal favorite (Zombie Fields HD)

    4. It has a VGA, good enough for Skype (it loads faster on Skype because it has lesser reso compared to other phones but bad quality) decent though it only cost 2,299 php hahaha

    5. Easy Wifi Connection and does not disconnect, (depends the router u’re using, Coz I’m using Cisco Router unlike any crap routers that can be bought a cheaper price[sucks])

    6. What can I say it has 2GB internal Mem (actually you can only use the half of it) and I don’t bother buying an SD Card because it has already a good storage mem. Buy yourself 32GB but I prefer you buy SDHC :)

    Cons (here it is…)

    1. Bad battery backup. Whenever I use it for Internet browsing, it will only last for 2 hrs (Surf via Wifi + Music Player (Google Pay Music)). But it’s good for a cheap price

    2. Bad Camera quality compared to my old CM Flare. 3mp of it looks like 1.3 to me

    3. No jellly case nor screen available on the market coz it is a new released phone they’ve said. But no worries I bought CM Flare and it fits perfectly but not on screen protector, buy universal and good luck cutting it :)

    4. 256 RAM :(. Although it has a low RAM, it runs a good JB OS and I love it’s notification panels :)

Score: 4/5 for me, because in terms of low spec mobile it manages the OS perfectly

Root: use Framaroot it works perfectly for me
Install BusyBox to allow you to modify your device (but be careful)
Link2SD + Root Explorer + Partitioned SD Card = Increase Memory Works for me
CWM? not to worry, because the phone itself has stock recovery no need to install Custom Recovery

Back-Up your ROM using MTK Droidz Tool before doing anything above.

Overclocking your phone like (increase RAM or whatsoever) is not true. you will just ruin the System Stock Codes that may corrupt it.

        1. ang phone ko po super loading.. d maka games kasi d mag response ang games.. quartz din sa akin.. anung problema ng phone ko>?

      1. 1200 mAh good enough,
tsaka lang naman po mabilis ma drain ang battery if you did the following:
        1. installing battery savers, (does not work for me)
        2. installing Anti-Virus
Note: Android is Linux based OS it does not recognize Virus etc.. Only Windows does
        3. Opening 2 or more apps, (Music, FB, tas games)

    1. hey, bakit di ako mka connect sa Wifi? lge nlang Obtaining IP address and talagang hindi sya mkaconnect..

      1. meaning madami po kaung nakaConnect,
        Solution:
        1. restart Router (Kung sa inyu po)
        2. restart phone (if di gumana above)
        3. Erase niu po yung mga old connections sa Phone niu po
        4. if anything above does not work, the problem will be your phone :)

        1. kuya…may possibility ba na mag ka roon nag connection problem pag nag Factory data reset ka?
