There aren’t too many hexa-core phones out in the local market right now, so owning one might actually make you the talk of your smartphone enthusiast group of buddies. If you’re going to get one, the Gionee GPad G5 is certainly one to consider. And it isn’t just about the chipset.

The GPad G5 features a massive 5.5 inch HD IPS display to go along with Yamaha loudspeakers, making it ideal as a multimedia device. The MT6591 hexa-core processor is coupled with the Mali 450 GPU is the same graphics chip that comes with its more powerful octa-core variant, so the GPad G5 is a pretty capable gaming machine as well.

As for the rest of the specs, you get 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, which can be expanded via micro SD. You also get a decent 8mp rear autofocus shooter paired with a 2mp fixed focus front shooter to handle imaging duties. You get the usual wireless connectivity options: HSPA+ support, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS as well.

Probably my only gripe is the 2,400mAh battery. The HD resolution might be a lower power draw on the battery than if it were Full HD, but that’s still a massive 5.5 inch display. Still, at Php9,499, you’re getting a capable hexa-core device with Gionee’s better than average build quality.
