It didn’t take long for LG’s latest flagship smartphone to get its own mini version. The new LG G3 Beat, as a midrange handset, has many of its specs toned down a bit, but the camera retains the laser auto focus feature.

Also known as G3 S outside Asia, the LG G3 Beat is a 5-inch smartphone running on the latest Android KitKat. We still see the same curved design with a metallic façade, but there’s no more quad-HD resolution for the smaller display. A 720p resolution is put in place instead, although it would’ve been nice if LG had gone full HD. The processor inside also sports less power but still offers a decent performance.

On the plus side, the LG G3 Beat still comes equipped with one of the coolest features of its flagship brother: the camera with its laser beam. This allows capturing the precious moments relatively faster than other smartphones, so much so that users need only touch to focus on the screen and the camera will shoot right away. The G3 Beat also features a smart keyboard with intuitive features to reduce typing mistakes, as well as QuickMemo+ to record any ideas whenever inspiration strikes.

LG’s home country of South Korea gets to see the G3 Beat first today. Other markets will get their product launch “in the weeks that follow.” Prices and availability information will only be known at the time of launch.
