Microsoft has announced the Nokia 215, a 2G phone for just $29.
Per the official Microsoft blog post, the Nokia 215 comes in either single or dual SIM configurations depending on the market. It’s a safe bet the Philippines will have the latter option, given our fondness of having two SIM cards in one phone.
As an entry-level phone, the Nokia 215 comes with basic social features, such as instant notifications for Facebook and Messenger. There’s an Opera Mini Browser onboard, as well as Bing Search and MSN Weather. Battery life isn’t mentioned, but the phone is capable of reaching 50 hours on MP3 playback and 29 days on standby. microSD cards are supported up to 32GB. Bluetooth 3.0, a rear-facing camera and LED torchlight are also available.
So, yes, the Nokia brand for phones isn’t dead just yet. But it looks like Microsoft only plans to use it for basic feature phones only. Their recent smartphones are simply called Lumia, as first seen in the Lumia 535.
The Nokia 215 is scheduled to release within the first three months of 2015. The price is $29, but that’s before taxes and subsidies. Available color variants are white, black and green.
