Canon are finally releasing the proper successor to their budget-friendly Rebel T3. The new camera is named as the Canon EOS Rebel T5, although here in Asia, you’ll most likely hear it as the Canon EOS 1200D. However, aside from the sensor, it seems that Canon have become conservative in giving it new features.

Canon EOS Rebel T5 (1200D) Specs:

  • 18MP CMOS APS-C sensor with Digic 4 image processor
  • ISO sensitivity up to 6400
  • 9 focus points
  • 1080/60p video recording
  • up to 3FPS continuous shooting
  • 3″ LCD
  • with built-in flash
  • Weight (inc. batteries): 480g (1.06 lb / 16.93 oz)
  • 130 x 100 x 78 mm (5.12 x 3.94 x 3.07″)

Available this coming March, it’ll set you back USD 450 (roughly PHP 20,175.30), or packaged with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens for USD 550 (roughly PHP 24,656.94). Frankly, at that price, you can buy better ones out there, especially given the fact that much of what’s under the hood is around 4-year-old tech. But still, if you’re committed to the brand and have been waiting to upgrade, it’s worth a look. Then again, all you really get is the higher MP count, IMHO.
