Although GoPro may be synonymous with action cameras, there are other players with their own take of digital cameras built for sports and immense outdoor experiences. SJCAM, for instance, has the new SJ5000X action camera for adventurers on tight budgets.

It’s a low-cost action camera, but it offers a lot. The SJCAM SJ5000x boasts 2K video recording (30 fps), “Gyro Anti-Shake” stabilization and a 2-inch LCD screen. Its 18-megapixel image sensor can also shoot 1080p videos at 60 frames per second.

In terms of appearance, this particular model bears a resemblance to SJCAM’s other offerings, what with its boxy shape and the positioning of its lens and ports. Connectivity options of the SJCAM SJ5000x include USB 2.0 and HDMI. It has a slot for microSD cards of up to 32GB, with limited support for cards with larger capacities. The detachable battery lasts up to 80 minutes on 1080p recording.

The SJCAM SJ5000x is powered by a NTK96660 Novatek CPU for smooth performance. We can’t really give an official verdict on the camera’s video quality until we manage to get a unit and test it ourselves for a review. But in the meantime, here are some rather uneventful footage uploaded on YouTube:

The official price of the SJCAM SJ5000x is $149 (approx. Php7,000). It’s available in black, white, silver, gold, blue, red and yellow.
