In the past few months, the effects of the current pandemic continue to unfold, and various establishments have stopped operating as part of the government’s mandate to stop the further spread of the novel coronavirus.

Consequently, the availability of resources were also made limited due to the restriction on transport of goods and services. Nonetheless, access to basic necessities is still permitted so we can continue with our daily lives. At this time, cooperation, generosity and compassion are what we need to overcome this obstacle.

With this in mind, an idea was born that would offer convenience to the local communities in this hard times.

What is CrowdSourced Store Finder?

This is a newly-launched website/app created by volunteers from Good Vibes Digital PH with DOST employee Trinmar Boado as the forefront developer. From the word itself, CrowdSourced Store Finder collects information shared by residents of each specific area. There are four (4) categories of establishments, namely: banks/ATMs, remittance centers, stores and pharmacies.

Crowdsourced-Store-Finder

How does it work? The user-resident will simply mark a point in the map where there is an open establishment and provide details like the store/establishment name, address, and opening/closing hours. There is also a special feature wherein the user can chat with nearby users currently online to further ask questions or give comments.

Basically, the web/app looks like Waze or Google Maps but with a different purpose.

Definitely, this new tech will relieve people from the trouble of going to stores, banks and pharmacies that would eventually be seen closed, and in that way, it also reduces likely exposure to the COVID-19.

Aside from being a user, you can also be a digital hero by sharing information on their website — https://storefinder.ph.

The 5G era is really here. As telco companies are hard-at-work in bringing this latest network standard in more areas, smartphone manufacturers are also doing its best to provide 5G-equipped devices to more consumers.

That’s why we’re now starting to see midrange smartphones that come with 5G. One of them is the latest Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite.

Just like the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro, the Lite version has impressive cameras, a capable processor, and other features that make it a great bang-for-the-buck product.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-Lite-5G

However, it’s not the only 5G device in this category. Not long ago, HMD Global also released the Nokia 8.3 5G.

Just like the former, Nokia’s latest midrange device can be a great alternative if you can’t spend too much on a 5G-equipped flagship device.

If specs and specs alone is what we’re here for, then there’s no denying that the Nokia 8.3 5G is the clear winner here.

As you just saw, this thing has a 6.81-inch screen, versus the smaller 6.57-inch display on the latter. Plus, Nokia’s offering has a cleaner punch-hole cutout on the top left for the selfie camera, while Xiaomi’s bet uses a traditional waterdrop notch.

Nokia-8-3-5g-NoypiGeeks-5854

Speaking of which, the Nokia 8.3 5G has better cameras than the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite. The punch-hole houses a 24-megapixel selfie camera, sharper than the 16-megapixel sensor that the latter has.

The Nokia option also has a 64-megapixel primary camera that’s obviously better than the 48-megapixel on the latter. Plus, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter versus the 8-megapixels on the Mi 10 Lite.

Nokia also put a slightly bigger 4,500mAh battery on the Nokia 8.3, while the Mi 10 Lite settles for a 4,160mAh capacity.

Clearly, the Nokia 8.3 5G is better than the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G. The only problem is, it is very expensive for a midrange device. In fact, it’s almost the price of the flagship Mi 10.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-Lite-5G

So, if the overall value for the money is what you’re after, then you might be better off settling with the Xiaomi option.

By doing so, you’re getting the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G octa-core processor, with flagship-level 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. That same processor enables its 5G connectivity.

The best part is, you’re actually getting a more vibrant AMOLED panel on the Mi 10 Lite than the IPS panel on the Nokia 8.3.

Nokia-8-3-5G

Ultimately, we gotta hand the win to the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite, primarily because it has the same Snapdragon 765G processor and 5G connectivity for a much less asking price.

For those who want the old-school instant camera, here’s the one for you. Polaroid unveiled its newest analogy camera, the Polaroid Now.

You’re probably wondering what makes the new Polaroid Now different from the other instant cameras? The answer lies with its autofocus lens. With this feature, the camera automatically detects the subject and chooses either the 35mm or 40mm lens based on the distance of the subject.

Moreover, it now uses an i-Type film and an LED counter at the back. Polaroid said that the battery lasts for up to 10 packs film in one charge. Besides, it’s rechargeable with its micro-USB port.

However, there’s also a drawback. The Polaroid Now no longer has dual-lens, nor connectivity features that its predecessors have. It lacks Bluetooth which means that it could no longer be paired with a smartphone or tablet and you cannot change the modes of your photos. Instead, the camera only has a new button for self-time and double-exposure mode.

The Polaroid Now will be available for a price of $99 (~Php5,100). It comes in white and black. However, for a limited time, it will also be available in orange, red, yellow, blue and green colors.

As of now, we don’t know whether the camera will come to the Philippines.

OPPO-Find-X2-Pro-display-NoypiGeeks

Based on the table above, both the Huawei P40 Pro Plus and OPPO Find X2 Pro can pass as proper flagship smartphones today. Heck, these high-end handsets are even better than most devices offered by more prominent brands.

But between the two, it looks like the OPPO Find X2 Pro takes the win in this specs comparison.

OPPO-Find-X2-NoypiGeeks-53636

OPPO’s offering has overtaken Huawei’s in key and important areas.

For starters, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. As per a lot of benchmarks and performance reviews, it’s faster and more powerful than the Kirin 990 chipset that Huawei uses.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5355

The OPPO Find X2 Pro also has 12GB of memory, which is more flagship-appropriate at this age than the 8GB of RAM of the Huawei P40 Pro Plus.

OPPO also nailed the display on this one. The Find X2 Pro comes with a bigger 6.7-inch OLED screen, with a sharper QHD+ pixel resolution, a faster 120Hz refresh rate, and a tougher Corning Gorilla Glass 6. A textbook setof display specs for a premium smartphone.

OPPO also added some extras that Huawei omitted on theirs. For one, it has better audio with its stereo speaker setup, Dolby Atmos support, and a headphone jack.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro also has a whopping 65W fast charging support, while the P40 Pro+ settles for 40W.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5658

But to Huawei’s credit, the Huawei P40 Pro Plus does have a better set of cameras. It comes with an advanced 50-megapixel primary camera, a 40-megapixel Cine lens, an 8-megapixel sensor with 3x of optical zoom, and another 8-megapixel telephoto with a whopping 10x of optical zoom.

The P40 Pro Plus also has better camera software with ultra low-light video, telephoto video, and 4K time-lapse.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5655

Huawei’s flagship also has 40W fast wireless charging with reverse wireless charging support. Meanwhile, OPPO disregarded wireless charging completely in the Find X2 Pro.

Still, thanks to its better display and processor, plus, a more affordable price tag, it appears that the OPPO Find X2 Pro offers better value than the Huawei P40 Pro Plus. But until the P40 Pro+ arrives in PH, we can never tell.

Huawei is known for its usual flip cases and silicone cases. But for the new smartphones launched globally a couple of days ago, Huawei brings a different set to the new Huawei P40 series. Not just ordinary cases, as they did add some interesting features and designs to its accessories.

The first one is for the Huawei P40 Pro, a gaming accessory meant to help users in playing games. This gaming case adds two physical trigger buttons on its top side for FPS games and the case automatically connects itself to Bluetooth as you put it up with the smartphone.

Huawei-Accessories-NoypiGeeks-1000

The next one is for the Huawei P40 — a wireless charging case. This one is a typical solution to the old problem of the Huawei P30. Its main function is to add wireless charging to a smartphone even if it doesn’t have one. The difference for this one is it equals the fastest charging capacity of the Huawei P40 which is 22.5W.

Xiaomi today held a launch conference in Europe where it announced the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro for the global market. At the same time, the Chinese company also took the wraps off Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G, which wasn’t among those launched in China.

The model is a trimmed-down version with a different design as well as midrange specs. What makes it stand out, though, is the 5G connectivity which it supports thanks to the Snapdragon 765G chipset.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G features a 6.57-inch AMOLED TrueColor display with FHD+ resolution. It has a waterdrop notch design which houses the 16-megapixel selfie camera and there’s also an under-screen fingerprint sensor onboard.

The Snapdragon 765G processor is supported by the LiquidCool technology which prevents the device from overheating. We can recall that the LiquidCool technology was also included on the Redmi K30 Pro 5G that was launched in China recently. The company did not reveal the memory versions that will be available for the Mi 10 Lite yet.

The second iteration of the company’s AirPods alternative was just revealed. Meet the new Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2.

It was outed along the global launch of the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 is a step up to the first model, which we really liked in our full review.

The Mi TWS earphones 2’s buds and the case has a brand new design. Plus, it features an iOS-like pairing animation when you use it with select Mi and Redmi devices.

Each bud comes with large 14.2mm speaker drivers with composite dynamic coils. The company claims it delivers deep and full bass, natural mids, and clear highs.

Xiaomi-Mi-True-Wireless-Earphones-2-NoypiGeeks-5892

High definition LHDC Bluetooth codec is also present, although the list of supported devices is limited.

The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 comes with dual microphones on each bud for the Environment Noise Cancellation. It will help the buds capture your voice clearly when making calls.

Xiaomi-Mi-True-Wireless-Earphones-2-NoypiGeeks-5872

Xiaomi’s move to remove the in-ear tips allowed the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 to have optical sensors, which can detect when you put it on/off, and will automatically pause/play the music.

Just like most TWS earphones, it has a touch-sensitive surface that lets you do tap gestures to answer/hang-up calls, wake voice assistant, and play/pause music. You can also pause/play music on each bud, individually, if you’re sharing it with friends.

Xiaomi-Mi-True-Wireless-Earphones-2-NoypiGeeks-5312

As per the company, this TWS earphones can be fully charged in only an hour. Each bud can carry 4 hours worth of music playback, and a total of 14 hours with the battery case.

Its long battery life, and reliable connectivity, is all thanks to the Bluetooth 5.0 chip.

The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 has a price of EUR79.99 (~Php4,500) and will be available in Europe by April.

Its release details in the Philippines are yet to be announced. In the meantime, you can check out the alternatives like the Realme Buds Air and Huawei Freebuds 3.

No, it’s not a typo. These are the same Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro devices that were launched in China last February. But this time, it’s going out of its mother country as it’s being introduced to the global market after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled MWC 2020.

Looking for the best smartphone that money can buy? We have some of your best options here.

Nope, we’re not talking about foldable phones. Today we’ll be comparing two proper smartphones from two of the biggest names in the Android space. First, we have the newly-released Huawei P40 Pro Plus.

Announced alongside the P40 and P40 Pro, the Plus model got the reveal as the most feature-packed smartphone that the company ever made.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5654

In fact, we suspect that the abrupt release was due to the pressure created by the new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra — which also came out as an answer to the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

So, today we’ll be comparing the Huawei P40 Pro Plus versus the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra’s features and specifications. We’ll be stacking up two of the highly-regarded Android flagships in the market today. Let’s start!

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5653

Based on the table above, we can see that both the Huawei P40 Pro Plus and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra are some of the best flagship smartphones that you can get right now.

But upon closer inspection, we can see that a lot of items in the table favors Samsung’s high-end device.

Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra-Philippines-5732

For starters, the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a better screen. In fact, it’s even considered as the best mobile display in the market today.

It sports a bigger 6.9-inch size, with a sharper QHD+ resolution, and a faster 120Hz refresh rate. It even has a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, while Huawei didn’t disclose the glass they used on the Huawep P40 Pro+’s screen.

Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra-Philippines-5734

To complement its for power users nature, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has an enormous 5,00mAh battery. That’s substantially bigger than the 4,200mAh capacity of the P40 Pro Plus.

However, the Huawei P40 Pro Plus boasts a blazing-fast 40W wireless charging, which is one of the fastest in the market today.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5656

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra also has other more appropriate flagship features like a 12GB of RAM (versus 8GB), Dolby Atmos support, and a great pair of AKG-tuned stereo speakers.

Of course, there’s the issue of Google Mobile Services support. Something that Huawei is still banned from using on its new smartphones.

Related

On the upside, there have been a lot of improvements made on their own Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem. Plus, they have added more apps on their own App Gallery — the alternative to Google Play Store.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5658

And to give Huawei credit, it looks like the P40 Pro Plus has better cameras. It may have a lower pixel count, but the new technologies incorporated on the 50-megapixel primary camera — like the new octa PDAF technology — shall capture better images.

Partner that with a 40-megapixel Cine camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and another 8-megapixel telephoto that has a whopping 10x optical zoom, you’ll probably get stellar photos. Plus, there are camera features like telephoto video, which allows you to record a video of the moon, instead of just taking a picture of it. You’ll have better flexibility on this device.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5655

If you’re excited to get a new smartphone as soon as possible, then you’re better off with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. This device is now available in the Philippines for Php69,990.

But if photography is top priority, you can wait for the Huawei P40 Pro Plus, which will not be out in the market until June 2020. It should arrive with more or less the same price tag, but thankfully, it has way more storage space at 512GB.

Two of the biggest names in the Android space have launched their first flagship offerings for the year 2020.

The first one that came out was the Samsung Galaxy S20 back in February. It’s the cheapest version out of the series, and also the smallest — perfect for those who are looking for a straightforward and compact flagship phone.

Samsung-Galaxy-S20-NoypiGeeks-5732

To go against Samsung’s flagship lineup, Huawei also released the P40 series. It starts with the Huawei P40, the counterpart of the vanilla Galaxy S20.

Just like the former, the P40 is the toned-down version of the Pro and Pro Plus models — catering to those who don’t care about the extra novelties that come with high-end smartphones today.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5653

As you just saw, both the Huawei P40 and Samsung Galaxy S20 both have proper flagship specs and features.

So, it will now depend on your budget. And from what it looks like, the cheaper price of the Huawei P40 makes it the more plausible choice.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5352

This handset costs only Php36,990. That’s Php13,000 cheaper than the Galaxy S20’s price tag.

However, by going with the cheaper model, you have to sacrifice some of the better features that are present in the Galaxy S20.

Smart-Galaxy-S20

For starters, the Huawei P40 only has an FHD+ screen and a 60Hz refresh rate screen. Those are already great display specifications for a mobile display, but with the Galaxy S20, you’d be getting a sharper QHD+ pixel resolution with a faster 120Hz refresh rate.

We also expect the Exynos 990 processor and Mali-G77 MP11 GPU on the Galaxy S20 to outperform the Kirin 990 and Mali-G76 MP16 on the P40.

Related

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5554

Huawei didn’t bother to add a stereo speaker on the P40. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S20 comes with two speakers and Dolby Atmos support.

We also have the IP68 water and dust resistant, while the P40 settles for an IP53 certification. Moreover, Huawei completely removed any wireless charging technology on the Huawei P40. You have to get the more expensive models to unlock that feature.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5354

Oh, and of course, Huawei is still banned from using Google Mobile Services. On the upside, there has been a lot of improvements in the company’s Huawei Mobile Services and ecosystem of apps. Alternatively, if you’re techie enough, you can sideload GMS yourself although it’s still unknown if the same methods used in the past will work in this new phone.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5851

So, if you can live with those compromises, then ‘cheaping’ out and going with the Huawei P40 might be the better option for you.

The best part is, apart from the savings, you’re also getting a better set of cameras. There’s the 32-megapixel selfie shooter on the front, versus the 10-megapixels on the Galaxy S20. It also comes with an advanced 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide that doubles as a macro lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera.

Chinese smartphone brand Huawei launched yesterday its much awaited high-end devices, the P40 series. At the same time, it also announced its newest EMUI 10.1.

Sorry to disappoint but a lot of the new features of the EMUI 10.1 are not unique to it. Majority are replacement of the apps and services usually offered to phones with Google Mobile Services.

Yet, these features are still interesting and helpful. We listed down the new things to look forward to with the the latest EMUI 10.1.

Hey Celia Voice Assistant

The new Hey Celia Voice Assistant is a replacement intended for Google’s AI voice assistant and is similar to iPhone’s Siri. Just use the words “Hey Celia” and you can dictate it to do tasks for you such setting alarms, controlling smart home appliances, answer questions and a lot more.

Multi-Window Panel

The latest EMUI comes with a multi-window features. With this, there is an edge panel that acts a drawer that has shortcuts to tools and applications and is accessible by doing a swipe from the both sides of the screens.

EMUI-10.1-Multi-Window

In multi-window mode, Huawei users can simply drag and drop images and texts from one window to the next. By using the app, you may respond to messages through a floating window instead of launching the app itself. With this, you no longer have to get out of the app that you’re currently using to reply to the notification.

Again, this app is an alternative to another Google app, the Google Duo. This time, Huawei made relevant improvements.

One helpful feature of the video calling app is that it allows high-definition 1080p video calls. There’s a also a low-light mode wherein you will still see a person even if he/she is in a dim light. Lastly, there’s even a screen sharing, which is unique to MeeTime.

EMUI-10.1-MeeTime

The great thing with MeeTime is that it’s available in all smartphones. Users of other brands may use this app as well.

Multi-Device Control Panel

This feature makes it easier for users to access devices connected to their Huawei smartphone. Just swipe from the bottom part of the display and the control panel will appear. You will then see all the connected devices in the screen.

EMUI-10.1-Multi-Device-control-panel

Cross-Device Photo Gallery

Huawei allows sharing easier. With Cross-Device Photo Gallery, phone owners may access the gallery of their devices of the other as long as they are on the same Wi-Fi network. Users may also use keywords to conveniently search items such as cats, flowers, food in the device.

EMUI-10.1-Cross-Device-Photo-Gallery

New and Vibrant Always-on Display

Huawei EMUI 10.1 also brings Always-on Display (AOD) feature that has 3D icons and is more power efficient.

Currently, the Huawei EMUI 10.1 is available in all Huawei P40 series. The brand has not given us a word on when this will arrive to older generation smartphones. So now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Do you find the improvements of EMUI 10.1 helpful? Which is your favorite?

Both the Huawei P40 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro are both great devices in their own respect.

However, the table above shows that Xiaomi’s flagship has more appealing features than Huawei’s.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5851

Don’t get me wrong, Huawei is still (probably) the king of mobile photography. The Huawei P40 Pro has a lot of camera features that easily dominates Xiaomi’s. From the sharper selfie camera, jam-packed camera sensors, and rich software features like telephoto video, ultra slow-mo recording, and more.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5555

However, the quad-camera setup on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro isn’t bad, either. A configuration that photo junkies can settle with, especially if they want more from their smartphones other than taking pictures.

A lot of benchmark apps and performance reviews still prefer the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. It’s said to deliver a more powerful performance than the Kirin 990 5G chipset of the Huawei P40 Pro.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-and-Mi-10-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5372

Huawei is known for its ultra-fast-charging technologies, and we’re seeing it here on the Huawei P40 Pro. But the thing is, the competition has made a lot of advancements on their own (possibly thanks to the Snapdragon 865), which ended up overtaking what Huawei offers.

With the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, you’re getting a 50W wired fast charger. Plus, support for 65W charging and a whopping 30W wireless fast charging. On the other hand, the Huawei P40 Pro is capped at 40W wired and 27W wireless fast charging.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5362

Speaking of charging, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has a 4,500mAh battery that’s marginally bigger than the 4,200mAh on the Huawei P40 Pro.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro also has other smaller features that make it better than the Huawei P40 Pro. There’s the option to get a 12GB variant, which should offer a more flagship experience. A stereo speaker setup is also here, which Huawei insists on not using on its smartphones. Plus, a faster 10W reverse wireless charging support.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5657
Huawei P40 Pro Plus

To Huawei’s credit, the P40 Pro does have an IP68 water and dust resistant rating, something that Xiaomi doesn’t officially have.

The Huawei P40 Pro also has an NM card slot. These proprietary cards might be expensive and hard to find, but at least Huawei is giving you an option to expand your storage. A right that you wouldn’t have in the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-and-Mi-10-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5374

But then again, we gotta hand the win to the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. Besides the aforementioned factors, there’s also the issue of Google Mobile Services (GMS) in Huawei devices.

Huawei claims its own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) have greatly improved and can already be a great alternative to Google. But it’s still probably not here yet.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5852

And of course, there’s the price. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro price starts at only CNY4,999 (~Php36,200). That’s more affordable than the Huawei P40 Pro’s Php50,990 price tag. You can even get the top-of-the-line model and it would still be more economical.

Bottom line, the more powerful processor, bigger battery, faster-charging technology, Google Mobile Services support, and the cheaper price tag makes the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro a winner over the Huawei P40 Pro.

Like decluttering your home ala Marie Kondo, it is also a must to clear space in your phone so you can download the more useful apps, store relevant media and help your device run more smoothly.

Storage versus Memory

When checking smartphone specifications, we regularly encounter “storage” and “memory” features as comparative data. Often, these two terms are used interchangeably but there is a huge difference between them.

Storage (aka ROM) refers to the space where you keep data such as media and photos. Conversely, memory (RAM) is reserved for the operating system and applications when they are in use.

Today, we’ve gathered a few simple tricks to help free up storage in your smartphone.

Clear out your browser history and cache

Go to your phone’s browser (or Firefox and Chrome), find “Privacy settings” and then tap “clear browsing data”. This may include frequently visited websites, login history, saved passwords, and cached images and files based on your preference. You may also opt to clear data only for a specific time.

Use your device’s storage cleanup tool

Usually, smartphones have an in-built storage cleaner tool. Go to “Settings” and click “Storage”. You’ll see a rundown of the amount of storage held up by each application. Select “Clean Up” or a similar phrase. It will bring you to the data for each application and will let you select a category to clear.

In case your phone doesn’t have one, you can download a cleanup tool from the Google Play Store.

Take advantage of FREE Cloud storage apps

Among many other means, uploading files and photos online is the wiser strategy. Not only it maintains sufficient space in your phone, it also lets you access information effortlessly from device to device just by linking and using the same account. This is especially efficient for those working professionals who need to jump from one device to another.

One classic example is Google Photos. You may opt to automatically back-up and sync your photos right after capturing them. It comes with a free unlimited storage for high quality files at reduced file size. For original quality and size, there’s a starting 15GB free space based on your overall Google storage account. You may also buy more storage at Php89/month for 100GB. Other cloud applications include OneDrive and iCloud for iPhone users.

Delete downloaded videos, podcasts, and apps that you don’t use

I’m one guilty person of downloading TV series episodes in my Netflix app but not actually watching them. I tend to save them for later but end up with another show. But for sure I’m not the only one.

Since we are on enhanced community quarantine, there’s no need to download these episodes for the time being given that we are eternally connected to our Wi-Fi. It goes the same with downloaded podcasts on Spotify or Stitcher.

As for the apps, check them one by one and honestly tell yourself if you are not making use of them (even though you say you would). This may include fitness apps, photo editors and games that you rarely play (although I recommend using the fitness apps). That way, you can easily junk them. Voila! Just being honest does a lot of benefit.

Remove old photos and videos

Take some time to go back to the past years’ photos and videos. Decide which of them are really valuable, and trash those that are not important. The best examples are screenshots of conversations and memes you saved for sharing with your friends. Accept the fact that these are not memories worth keeping, but just things you enjoyed momentarily.

In case you want to keep them, you may upload them to free cloud storage apps like OneDrive, Google Drive, and iCloud first before deleting.

Share with us below how many GB (or even MB) you freed up after doing these tricks.

There’s a huge chance that we won’t see the usual iPhone launch in September this year.

A report from Nikkei Asian Review revealed that Apple is weighing on the possibility of postponing the launch of the first 5G iPhone due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The California-based tech giant has reportedly been internally discussing the possibility of delaying the launch by months. Meanwhile, supply chain sources said that the coronavirus threats may push back the originally planned September release.

The report added that Apple wanted its first 5G iPhone to be a huge success. Regardless of the supply chain constraints, the company is more concerned with the current economic situation. If this persists (which is more likely to happen), people will no longer upgrade their phones and could result in poor reception of the first 5G iPhone.

To recall, Apple is already a year behind its competitors in terms of 5G technology. Samsung and Huawei were able to launch 5G-supported high-end smartphones this year. Both brands are already planning to expand 5G to more affordable handsets in the coming months.

Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the brand’s product development timeline with the majority of Apple headquarters’ employees working remotely from home for an indefinite time to comply with the California government’s orders.

Besides, the COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected product development but the engineering part as well. With the implementation of travel bans around the globe, Apple who were supposed to work closely with global suppliers had to postpone their trips.

Related

In the part of suppliers, many agree that delay is most likely to happen. Some confirmed that the company has advised them to stop mass production for two to three months. Apple even moved the usual June timeline to August.

Apple’s decision will not only affect its timeline but a lot of its global suppliers. Being one of the biggest tech companies, suppliers around the world will also take a massive hit. This would also mean that millions of production line jobs will be affected.

For now, Apple is monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak in the US and Europe as both markets combined account for around half of Apple’s sales. However, with the current situation, chances are high that delay will happen.

As of writing, COVID-19 cases reached over 500,000 around the globe, with the US having more than 85,000 cases surpassing that of China. Countries in Europe, on the other hand, are struggling to keep their numbers down.

In the Philippines, there are more than 700 cases reported. According to the Department of Health, the numbers will rise in the coming weeks because of the increase in testing.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5554

As you just saw, both the Huawei P40 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra are equally great devices.

The two have great displays, fast performance, and killer cameras — some of the main pillars of having a great smartphone.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5654

But based on the table above, the Huawei P30 Pro is much cheaper than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Just like its predecessors, this thing launched with a price tag of Php50,990.

That’s Php19,990 cheaper than Samsung’s offering. Heck, you can even get a decent mid-range smartphone out of that savings.

Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra-Philippines-5732

The P40 Pro is already a great device for what it is. But obviously, it has some compromises that allowed it to be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Probably the most obvious one is the lack of Google Mobile Services (GMS). It looks like the US ban ain’t ending soon or maybe ever. We still don’t know.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5351

On the upside, the company has made a lot of improvements on its own Huawei Mobile Services, and even added more apps to their Google Play Store alternative, Huawei App Gallery.

If you’re clever enough, you can even side-load Google Mobile Services on this thing, just like what the Mate 30 Pro users are doing.

Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-5372

Besides the software, the Huawei P40 Pro also has a smaller 6.58-inch screen, and a slightly slower 90Hz refresh rate. In fact, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is hailed as the best mobile display in the market today.

It also looks like Huawei skimped on the memory department as it only has 8GB of RAM, versus the roomy 12GB of memory that the competition have.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5353

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra gets to have a 5,000mAh battery, while the Huawei P40 Pro settles for a 4,200mAh capacity.

Related: OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Specs Comparison

Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-5377

On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra seems to have a better set of cameras. But the thing is, in photography, numbers aren’t the only important thing.

It may have a pixel-packed 108-megapixel primary camera, but the sophisticated 50-megapixel sensor of the Huawei P40 Pro might give it a boost. It’s also one of the first devices to have octa-PDAF technology.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5653

Our mixed-bag reaction continues to the other cameras. The Huawei P40 Pro takes the lead on the ultra-wide game with its 40-megapixel Cine lens, versus the regular 12-megapixel ultra-wide on the latter.

But then again, the Galaxy S20 Ultra takes back the lead with its 48-megapixel telephoto lens that can do 100x of hybrid zoom. Although, Huawei claims that it uses all of its cameras to aide the 12-megapixel telephoto lens to do up to 50x of SuperSensing zoom.

Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-NoypiGeeks-5658

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is also capable of 8K video recording while the Huawei P40 Pro is only at 4K.

I guess the bottom line here is, it will now depend on your budget. If you don’t mind going on board with HMS or installing GMS on your own, then you’d be getting great value out of the Huawei P40 Pro.

Huawei-P40-and-P40-Pro-NoypiGeeks-5553

But if money is not an issue, then spending more on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra entitles you to the best mobile display experience, sharper selfie and primary cameras, stereo speakers, and a bigger battery.

We’ll also be comparing the Galaxy S20 Ultra to the new Huawei P40 Pro Plus, so stay tuned for that.

You’ve had your Realme Buds Air for a while and having a really good time with it.

But in case you forgot, this pair of TWS is a smart device. Unlike your regular pair of earphones, the Realme Buds Air has tons of software features to make it work the way it is — although you might not see it visually.

And just like most smart devices, it’s subject to software updates to ensure that it’s in tip-top condition every time you use it. In fact, upgrades are important on this device since it just launched a couple of months ago, and Realme is still ironing out some things about it.

This is why, today, we’ll be teaching you how to update your Realme Buds Air to ensure that you’re using it the way Realme wanted you to.

Realme-Buds-Air-Review-NoypiGeeks-5479

Realme Buds Air software upgrade

Step 1: Download the Realme Link app on Google Play store

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5474

The Realme Buds Air works really well on iOS devices. However, the Realme Link app is only available in Google Play Store for Android — at least as of writing. For reference, the smartphone we’re using is the OPPO Reno 3 Pro.

Search it and download it. The app has a size of only 14MB and also serves as a companion app to other Realme smart wearables like the Realme Band.

Step 2: Setup the app

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5477

Once it finishes downloading, open the Realme Link app. Tap when you want the Realme Link to access your device’s location. Since we’ll only be using it for the Realme Buds Air, you can tap ‘Deny’.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5476

You then have to choose which region you are from. For this tutorial, we’re choosing the Philippines.

The Realme Link supported regions include India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Malaysia, Chinese mainland, Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5475

Realme Link will ask permission to access your files and media — you can tap Deny on this one as well if you don’t need it.

Step 3: Sign in or Create a Realme Link account

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5559

You would then land directly to the home screen. To sign in, go to the Account section or tap the “Add your device..” on the home screen. You will be directed to the page below.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5551

Signing in is very easy. Just key in your phone number, wait for the verification code via SMS, and type it in.

Step 4: Pair your Realme Buds Air

The Realme Link app should detect your Realme Buds Air immediately if you’ve paired it already.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5478

But if you haven’t already just follow these easy Realme Buds Air pairing process: Open the case > Press and hold the pairing button in the middle until it flashes green > look it up on your phone’s Bluetooth settings > connect it and you’re good.

Step 5: Start the update

You can open your Realme Buds Air within the app. There’s a Firmware Update section on the bottom that you can tap to see if an update is available.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5471

But if this is the first time you’d be updating the Realme Buds Air, chances are, a lot of updates have already gone by. Which is why the app will automatically pop-up a notification prompting you to update.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5469

As of writing, the version we got is the Realme Buds Air 1.2.0.0 update that improves touch control experience and signal stability.

The Realme Link app didn’t show the update size. But considering how straightforward and simple the device, and how fast it downloaded (around 2mins under a ~500kbps of internet speed) it might be only under 30MB to 20MB.

Realme-Link-App-NoypiGeeks-5470

Just make sure that the Realme Buds Air is in close range and have at least 30% of battery charge.

And that’s it! Once the update status turns to 100%, your Realme Buds Air is good to go.

Thanks to Realme’s great after-sales support, we expect to get great mileage out of this. Software updates are just one of the great things about these pair of TWS earphones. To learn more about it, you can check out our Realme Buds Air review.

Huawei has announced a new addition to its growing smartwatch line-up. Meet the Huawei Watch GT 2e, a new accessory aimed for the young and sporty people.

The new Huawei Watch GT 2e is made of stainless steel with radial pattern designs on the bezels and integrated strap. Despite being integrated, it still has the signature quick release strap feature of its predecessors to make it more comfortable and easier to use.

Huawei says the new Watch GT 2e can last for up to 14 days on a single charge because of its highly efficient Kirin A1 processor. Workouts like running, hiking, and riding can be tracked for up to 30 hours. Meanwhile, continuous music playback can last for up to 24 hours.

For those who are focused on health and fitness, Huawei has a total of 100 workout modes and it also includes automatic detection for common exercises like walking, running, and elliptical machines.

For the fitness focused, Huawei’s tracking options now include 100 workout modes, with added options like rock climbing, skateboarding and parkour as well as automatic detection for a few basic workouts like running, walking and elliptical machines.

Huawei Watch GT 2e can measure heart rate even while going on a swim. Speaking of which, it’s also waterproof for up to 50 metres so you don’t have to worry that it will break. In addition, a dedicated SpO2 can be used to measure the oxygen saturation of the blood.

When you pair it with a smartphone, you may use it as a shutter button remote so you can take pictures even without touching your handset. In addition, notifications will be sent directly to your wrist.

Like previous Huawei smartwatches, the operating system used is proprietary and generally health-focused.

The Huawei Watch GT 2e is priced at €199 (~Php11,200) but release date is currently unknown. But based on the Huawei P40 series’ upcoming April release, we expect it to come to the market shortly after.
