Google has shared its latest look at which versions of Android are running on devices worldwide, revealing that its newest operating system is making steady progress.

The data, which reflects a 7-day period ending on December 1, 2025, shows Android 16 is now active on 7.5% of all Android devices. This is a significant increase from the last time Google provided these statistics in April 2025, when Android 15 was on just 4.5% of devices.

The current most popular version is Android 15, which now powers 19.3% of all devices. This is a lower figure than the latest version typically holds in these snapshots. For comparison, back in July 2024, Android 13 was the leader with almost 21% of devices.

The rise of Android 16 follows a rollout that began roughly 7 months ago. Google’s Pixel phones were the first to receive the update. Major manufacturers like Samsung began their own upgrades in September 2025, with other brands including OPPO, OnePlus, and Nothing following with updates throughout the late fall.

This distribution update also quietly retired a very old version of Android from the chart. Android 4.4 KitKat, which launched in 2013, is no longer listed.

Google notes that these distribution figures are updated sporadically and only reflect devices that access the Google Play Store.
