“One person, one socmed account,” is what Senate President Vicente Sotto III wants to push to help fight online trolls.

The Senate president proposed the new measure due to the increasing online attacks related to the issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea.

“It should be one person, one account on every internet platform so that trolls will be eliminated. How do we do that? We need it,” Sotto said.

Sotto added that there should be coordination with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. “One person, one account, that’s clear,” he added. Sotto affirms that an unverified account should be removed from the platform.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is also considering the registration of owning social media accounts. However, it’s been greatly opposed by rights groups due to possible issues with privacy and freedom of expression.
