The OPPO Reno15 Pro has officially arrived in the Philippines, so we finally have the chance to test it out.

At first look, the new model doesn’t feel entirely new as it looks almost exactly the same as the Reno14 Pro. Still, there are obviously new things here, and in our OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G review, we’ll check those out. We’ll also see if this sub-flagship phone has what it takes to justify its price tag.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the OPPO Reno15 Pro is not drastically different from its predecessor, the OPPO Reno14 Pro. The overall layout is the same, apart from that bezel in the LED flash and the third camera now gone.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-vs-Reno14-Pro

Putting them side by side, you’d see how smaller the newer model is. The Reno14 Pro had an enormous 6.83-inch screen, while the newer Reno15 Pro now has a more compact 6.32-inch display.

In fact, it’s also smaller than the Reno15 (6.59-inch) and Reno15 F (6.57-inch). In an era of big phones, we very much appreciate the compactness of this device.

It’s not the thinnest nor the lightest phone around, but we like it that way. Paired with the flat frame and small footprint, the Reno15 Pro is very comfortable to carry around and easily fits in any pocket.

The Reno15 Pro doesn’t have extensive durability features, but it has enough to give you peace of mind. It uses an aerospace-grade aluminum frame and is IP69 dust and water-resistant.

You then get a frosted glass rear panel that beautifully accentuates the aurora borealis-like reflections of this Aurora Blue color option, weirdly the only color available.

Taking a tour, we have a 6.32-inch LTPO AMOLED screen on the front, with an under-display fingerprint scanner, and a punch-hole for the 50-megapixel selfie camera. The bezels are very thin and uniform all around.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-Review-5793

The left side only has the two antenna bands, which are also found on the other three sides of the devices.

On the left, we have the volume controls and the lock/power switch. The buttons are flat, clicky, and feel sturdy.

At the top, there are the noise-isolating microphone, stereo speaker, and the IR blaster.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-SIM

The bottom has the loudspeaker, USB-C port, and a SIM tray for two nano SIM cards.

Overall, we really like the design and build of the OPPO Reno15 Pro, primarily because of how small it is. Aside from the patterns on the back, it’s very simple but that’s actually a good thing.

Display and Audio

There’s a compact 6.32-inch 1.2K LTPO AMOLED screen on the OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G, which has a 2640 x 1216 pixel resolution, and ~460 pixel-per-inch. It also has a high 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling, HDR10+ support, and 10-bit color.

It has adjustable screen color modes, adaptive tone, image sharpener, Video Color Boost, and adjustable screen resolution and refresh rate.

Display quality is really great. It is vibrant, can get really bright for outdoor use and watching HDR content, and feels very smooth thanks to the high refresh rate.

For audio, there’s a stereo speaker setup, with the earpiece doubling as the second driver. 300% volume booster is enabled by default when you max out the volume rocker.

The audio sounds very big for the device’s size. Treble is clean, the bass is thumping, the volume is loud, and the stereo separation is audible.

Hardware and Performance

The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8450 octa-core processor, with a Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. No microSD card slot, as expected.

OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G Benchmark Scores

Our experience was pretty seamless when trying to do work, messaging/video calls, and making content with the Reno15 Pro 5G. It’s very quick when opening apps and responsive when doing anything.

Performance is very flagship-like, so we expect nothing less in terms of gaming.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-Review-5781

Genshin Impact was very smooth under the Medium preset with 60 frames. We did notice the phone warm up after 15 minutes of playing, but not too much to have a direct effect on the gaming performance.

PUBG Mobile was seamless under HD graphics at Extreme frames, Call of Duty Mobile under Max settings, and Farlight84 at HD graphics with High frames.

Lighter and popular games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Asphalt Legends Unite had no problems under maxed-out settings.

The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G is blazing fast and reliable for everyday use. While the gaming performance is good enough for most titles, we expected a better experience for its asking price.

Software and User Interface

Running the show is the Android 16 operating system with ColorOS 16 on top. OPPO pledged to provide 5 years of major OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches.

It has OPPO’s new All-Scenario Scheduler, Trinity Engine, which ensures everything is optimized and smooth.

O+ Connect lets you seamlessly transfer files to an iPhone and PC, just make sure the second party has the O+ Connect app installed on their phone.

AI Mind Space is like a built-in Pinterest app that curates your chosen screenshots, notes, and other ideas.

AI Translate, AI Call Translator, AI Search, AI Writer, and AI Transcriber are also here.

We also have tons of AI features within the gallery: AI Recompose, AI Eraser, AI Portrait Glow, AI Perfect Shot, and Enhance Clarity.

We also like the AI Popout function. Simply pick three Live Photos from the gallery > Tap Collage > Tap Motion Collage > Press and hold a photo to pop out a subject to create an eye-catching moving picture. Pretty cool.

The Reno15 Pro also shares seamless connectivity with other devices, even iPhones. You can easily share content, remote control other devices, sync notifications, and more.

For security, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and face unlock worked well during our tests. No problems there.

Cameras

The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G features a sharp 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP5 main camera with f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization, and PDAF. There’s also a 50-megapixel 3.5x telephoto with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide with autofocus, and a 50-megapixel for selfies.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-Camera-Review

OPPO highlights its 4K HDR Ultra-Steady Video, which basically refers to its ability to shoot 4K videos with Steady Video and HDR recording enabled. The same feature is present on the selfie camera, albeit capped at 1080p.

It can shoot video at 4K and 1080p at 30fps and 60fps, 720p at 30fps, and slow-mo videos at 720p@240fps, 720p@960fps, 1080p@120fps, and 1080p@480fps.

Daytime shots from the 200-megapixel main camera look exemplary. We got sharp details, great dynamic range, sharp details, and realistic colors.

The main sensor is so sharp that you can use it for 2x portrait shots, which has a 48mm equivalent. Details have been mostly retained, and the colors and dynamic range are still good.

Image quality held up pretty well at night. The dynamic range is still well regulated, colors are nice, and the details stay sharp.

The 50-megapixel telephoto camera continues the impressive streak. It shoots at 3.5x zoom or 85mm equivalent with the same impressive sharpness, dynamic range, and colors, even in low-light.

The 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera took good photos, too. Like the rest of the cameras, we got great colors, dynamic range, and sharp details.

Even the 50-megapixel selfie camera is good, which even has a slightly wide lens with an 18mm equivalent, allowing you to take group photos easily. Dynamic range and details are still great, while the skin tones are spot on.

It’s clear that the OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G has great cameras, almost flagship-like, for both still photos and videos. Cameras are usually the strong suit of the Reno series, so it’s no surprise that it did well here.

Battery and Charging

The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G comes with a 6,200mAh silicone-carbon battery with 80W wired and reverse wired charging. Sadly, there’s no wireless charging support.

We got mixed-bag results in our test. In PCMark’s synthetic battery loop test, it only lasted for about 10 hours and 40 minutes, despite doing the test twice.

But in our more realistic 1080p YouTube Battery Loop Test, it lasted for 18 hours and 28 minutes, which is very impressive for a device this small.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-Charging

Charging speeds are very quick, too. A quick 15-minute top-up already provides a 0-27% charge, with a full charge taking about 1 hour and 5 minutes. See the full results below:

  • 15mins: 0-27%
  • 30mins: 52%
  • 45mins: 75%
  • 1hr: 96%
  • 1hr 5mins: FULL

Verdict

On its own, the OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G is a great smartphone. It’s got flagship-like performance for both day-to-day tasks and gaming, the cameras are great all around, and the display and speakers are awesome.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-Unboxing

There’s also the extensive software support, good battery life, and fast charging.

We’re also a big fan of its sleek and durable build, and we really wish more compact phones like this come out in the future.

OPPO-Reno15-Pro-Review-5780

However, the device is expensive at launch. The price tag is very close to those of flagship phones from other brands. The lack of wireless charging and design refresh is a bummer, too.

While it’s definitely a great all-around compact smartphone, we can’t deny that it’s pushing the limits in terms of how high a non-flagship can sell for. It will be up to you to decide if you can look past the price tag. Otherwise, there are other options out there.
