Those who have traveled in first-world countries know how advanced their train systems are. And one feature we wish we also had here in the Philippines is real-time train tracking.
We’ve seen it in Taiwan, where each metro station lets you know where the train is and its estimated time of arrival, so you always know how long you have to wait and manage your time better, especially if there are sudden disruptions in train services.
Sadly, we may not see such a feature in train stations here in the Philippines. For now, the closest thing we can get is the TrainSight app, which was developed by a team led by 28-year-old commuter and software engineer RJ Crusem.
The app is available on Android via the APK file available for download on their website, a web version is also available. It will be officially available on the Google Play Store in August and the App Store by Q4.
To gather train locations, the app will use the GPS data from the users, as well as a dedicated hardware tracker installed on the train sets.
The app already works in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 stations and has a provision for MRT-7.
Crusem said that they are already talking with relevant government agencies to support the launch of the app. They are also focused on improving the app and listening to user feedback.
