Meta has announced its next generation of wearable technology with the introduction of Meta VR Glasses. These glasses weigh approximately 100 grams and are designed to function as a personal cinema, a workspace, and a gaming console.
The hardware uses a two part system with glasses for the display and a puck for the battery and computing. The 5K micro-OLED display features 37 pixels per degree and supports Dolby Vision and Atmos. Driven by a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, the puck provides three hours of battery life and 45W fast charging.
Instead of controllers, users navigate via hand gestures, eye movements, or Meta AI. You can connect a Mac or Windows PC via USB-C to use your own keyboard. Full color passthrough allows you to see your desk and surroundings while working.
The device is IMAX Enhanced certified and offers 3D Disney plus movies. Media partners include Peacock, YouTube, HBO Max, and Prime Video. It also supports 8K sports from ESPN, 75 launch games via hand gestures, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Hologram technology will allow photorealistic video calls on apps like Zoom or WhatsApp. Meta VR Glasses will cost $1,299.99 (~Php81,000) and is expected to launch April of 2027.
