Garmin has launched its latest high-end marine smartwatch, the Garmin quatix 8 Pro. Designed for serious boaters and sailors, the watch promises to solve a common problem: staying connected far from shore.

The Garmin quatix 8 Pro keeps the robust design of previous models. It features a 47mm titanium bezel, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a 1.4-inch AMOLED screen built to be readable in direct sunlight and withstand saltwater and spray.

The standout feature is its dual connectivity. By combining inReach satellite technology with an LTE cellular module, the watch can maintain a connection up to 50 miles, or about 80 kilometers, offshore. This means users can send texts, make voice calls, and get real-time weather updates directly from their wrist without needing a smartphone nearby.

Safety is also a major focus. The watch includes an SOS function that sends a distress signal directly to Garmin’s 24-hour emergency response center. The company reports its center has already coordinated over 1,200 successful water rescues.

A new software feature called Boat Mode automatically changes the watch’s interface. When it detects you’re on the water, it prioritizes marine tools like autopilot controls and vessel data. Back on land, it switches to everyday smartwatch apps and health metrics.

Despite its bright screen and constant connectivity features, Garmin states the quatix 8 Pro can last up to 15 days on a single charge in regular smartwatch mode. Beyond boating, it supports all-day health tracking, contactless payments via Garmin Pay, and over 100 sports modes, including water sports like wakeboarding.

The Garmin quatix 8 Pro is priced at $1,299.99(~Php73,000). No word yet if it will be available in the Philippines.
