Tech giant Meta has unveiled a new pair of smart glasses made in partnership with sports brand Oakley. Named the Oakley Meta Vanguard, these glasses are built for athletes and fitness enthusiasts, offering a way to capture their activities and get real-time data without a screen.

Unlike the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses that has a screen, the Oakley Meta Vanguard is designed purely for sport. They look similar to Oakley’s popular Radar or M-frame sunglasses with a wrap-around design. Built into the nose piece is a central camera. The glasses also feature microphones and built-in speakers for listening to music, taking calls, using AI, and capturing content while working out.

Weighing 66 grams, these glasses are water-resistant and come with swappable lenses for different light conditions. The fit is secured with replaceable nose pads available in different sizes. On a single charge, the battery lasts for up to nine hours.

A key feature is the integration with Garmin, a major company known for its sports trackers. The glasses can connect to Garmin watches and bike computers. During a run or ride, a user can ask for updates on their current speed, pace, heart rate, or distance. An LED light inside the glasses will also flash when the user hits a specific goal.

The camera can automatically record short video clips when the wearer reaches important milestones. This includes every kilometer run, hitting a certain speed, reaching an elevation goal, or achieving a target heart rate. The glasses then combine these clips with data overlays to create a automatic highlight reel of key moments from a race, climb, or workout. These videos and photos can be shared directly to the social fitness app Strava.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard is set to go on sale for $499 US Dollars(~Php29,000). They will begin shipping to customers on October 21.
