Finnish company Jolla is back from the dead and has launched the new Jolla Phone. It is apparently an “independent European Do it Together Linux phone.”
The company boasts that the Jolla Phone is a “real Linux phone” as it runs on actual Linux and “not a pseudo-Linux.” But to make it smartphone-friendly, it still has the brand’s Sailfish OS on top, now on its version 5.0.

Sailfish OS is privacy-focused and is marketed as the “only European mobile operating system.”
Jolla claims it doesn’t track users or have hidden analytics. And, while it supports Android apps, you can fully shun Google from this phone. It even has a dedicated Privacy Switch.

As for the rest of the specs, it is powered by an unspecified but “high performant” MediaTek processor, with 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of expandable storage. It has a compact 6.36-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen and Corning Gorilla Glass.
There’s a removable 5,5000mAh battery, an interchangeable back panel, and a 50-megapixel main camera joined by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide.

The Jolla Phone currently has a listed price of EUR499 (~Php34,600). Jolla said that the final specs may change, as they will only actually produce the product if they receive 2,000 pre-orders. Alas, the device already received 3,256 reservations as of writing.
