Design and Build Quality

The first thing we liked about the vivo X200 FE is its small build — even smaller than our previous favorite, the OPPO Find X8. It is only 150.8mm tall and 71.8mm wide, making it really usable with just one hand — a rarity in this era where phones have gotten really large.

vivo-X200-FE-Review-5793

vivo kept the thickness pretty standard at 8mm. With its flat frame, the X200 FE provides a secure and comfortable grip for taking pictures or binge-watching content.

We can’t get enough of how nice it is in the hands, easy to use with one hand, and fits seamlessly into our pockets.

vivo-X200-FE-Review-5789

vivo didn’t skimp on durability, too. The X200 FE is IP68 and IP69 dust and water-resistant. It should easily withstand rain, water splashes, and accidental drops in the pool.

It also received SGS Triple Protection certification and passed MIL-STD-810H US military grade shock resistance tests. But since both the front and back are made of glass, you still want to be careful with it.

vivo-X200-FE-Case

Speaking of protection, the included rubber case looks really nice and matches the upbeat vibe of the device’s design. It does a good job of protecting the display and the camera island. A screen protector is also pre-applied out of the box.

The rear panel has a frosted finish, which stays clean from fingerprint marks and smudges. The flat aluminum frame is also blemish-free. The color we have is called Blue Breeze. A black option is also available for a more subtle look.

Taking a tour, we have a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED screen on the front with a punch-hole for the 50-megapixel selfie camera. We got really thin bezels for a high screen-to-body ratio.

vivo said it used toughened glass on the front, but the actual model used was not mentioned.

An IR blaster is on the top, together with the noise-isolating microphone for calls.

Left side is clean, while the right has the volume controls and lock/power switch. The physical buttons are also flat and sit flush in the device’s frame. They are tactile and clicky, no problems there.

vivo-X200-FE-SIM

The bottom has the primary loudspeaker, primary microphone, USB-C port, and a SIM tray for two nano SIM cards.

With its compact design, durable build, and vibrant color, the vivo X200 FE easily stands out in an era of large, intimidating sub-flagship phones.

Display and Audio

The vivo X200 FE has a compact 6.31-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display with a 2640 x 1216 pixel resolution, ~461ppi, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR10+ support, 5,000 nits of peak brightness, 1,800 nits under high brightness mode, and 2160Hz PWM dimming.

While we do love its compact size, having a smaller screen does have inevitable drawbacks: less space for multitasking, making watching movies less immersive, and crams the screen with on-screen controls in games.

Other than that, the display quality was really good. Outdoor visibility is excellent, colors and contrast are nice in the eyes, and animations feel very smooth.

The stereo speakers use a full-on speaker at the bottom and a cranked-up earpiece on top. The vocals and treble sounded good, albeit just a bit muddy. Bass is also present, and the volume is surprisingly good for its tiny build.

Hardware and Performance

The vivo X200 FE is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ octa-core processor, with an Immortalis-G720 GPU, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of UFS 3.1 non-expandable storage.

vivo X200 FE Benchmark Scores

As evident from its impressive benchmark scores, the vivo X200 FE delivered well in basic and day-to-day tasks. Expect seamless experiences when browsing the web, social media, shooting content, making video calls, and more.

The gaming experience was also great, but it suffers from overheating on some demanding games under the highest settings. But on other more optimized games, you should be fine with maxed-out settings.

vivo-X200-FE-Gaming-Review

Genshin Impact ran smoothly under High resolution and visual effects at 60 frames, but we had to dial the resolution down to Medium to normalize the thermals for extensive gaming sessions.

PUBG Mobile had no issues with HDR graphics and Extreme frames, as well as Call of Duty Mobile under Max. Farlight84 with Extreme graphics and Very High frames also played well.

As expected, more optimized games like Mobile Legends and Asphalt Legends Unite worked flawlessly on the highest available settings.

Software and User Interface

The vivo X200 FE runs on Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15. It is guaranteed to receive 4 Android OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches. Not the longest in its segment, but still a good amount of futureproofing.

Funtouch OS is still as nice and tidy as ever. Everything is where you want and need it to be. However, the overall UI does feel a bit dated and is ripe for a makeover.

Customization is still plenty, from AOD wallpapers to charging animations.

Virtual RAM Expansion is here, for those who actually think it works. It can be enabled or disabled (restart required), but the allotment can’t be adjusted.

A built-in storage cleaner is here which can analyze the system to find unnecessary apps or files that are taking up space and lets you clear them with a press of a button.

The optical fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate, as well as the face unlock, even at pitch black rooms.

Productivity features like split screen and small window are all here, which let you switch multiple apps at once or switch between them seamlessly. Not that you’d want to use it in a small screen, but it’s there in case you need it.

Of course, there’s also a slew of AI features, starting with Google Gemini as the standard assistant. Google’s Circle to Search is also here. In addition, there are AI Screen Translation and Smart Call Assistant that provides real-time call translation with on-screen text/voice output.

A lot of the other AI features can be found in the Gallery app. Apart from the usual AI Erasers and Resolution Enhancers, the vivo X200 FE is equipped with AI Magic Move, which lets you frame your photos better by literally moving the subject from the frame using generative fill.

AI Image Expander is handy for switching landscape shots to portrait shots and vice versa. Want to post a Story in full-screen? This feature will help you fill in the blank spaces.

The interface of the vivo X200 FE was able to satisfy us, but then again, it’s probably time for Funtouch OS to receive a makeover.

Cameras

vivo continues its partnership with ZEISS for the vivo X200 FE. It has a 50-megapixel main camera that uses a Sony IMX921 sensor with f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilization.

vivo-X200-FE-Camera-Review

It is joined by a 50-megapixel IMX882 telephoto lens with 3x zoom and OIS, a low-resolution 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and another 50-megapixel on the front for selfies.

Both the front and rear cameras can shoot up to 4K@60fps videos. Slow-motion videos can go up to 1080p@240fps. vivo’s Aura Light ring flash is also here with adjustable brightness and color temperature to match the subject’s skin tone, even food.

Daylight shots from the main camera are great. It captures photos with a wide dynamic range, incredible sharpness, and realistic colors. Plus, you get a smooth and authentic depth-of-field even without the Portrait Mode.

Low-light shots from the main camera look really impressive, too. We got plenty of details, good contrast, and dynamic range. Shutter speed can be slow at certain scenarios, so make sure your hands and subject remain steady to avoid blurry shots.

That same sensor is used for the 2x shots with a 46mm and higher equivalent, which is great for portraits. Despite the digital zoom, details still look fine.

For a unique look, the Portrait Mode has seven 7 bokeh effects and 6 lens effects that mimics the look you’d get from real ZEISS lenses.

Tapping the 3x zoom takes you to the 50-megapixel telephoto camera. It has a focal length of 73mm and can go as far as 2433mm with a 100x digital zoom.

Photos looked great under a reasonable focal length and will inevitably look worse as you zoom further. Still, it’s been great for watching gigs or for framing shots better with distractions in the foreground.

Shots from the 8-megapixel camera are nothing to brag about. Having an 8-megapixel sensor means it lacks sharpness, but the dynamic range, colors, and low-light performance make every photo it takes usable. For social media purposes, it’s more than good enough.

The 50-megapixel selfie camera is as good as you expect it to be. Details are more than you need, skin tones or realistic, autofocus works well for close-ups, and the dynamic range is flawless. The lens itself gets pretty wide for 0.8x zooms, which is great for group shots.

vivo X200 FE’s camera department further proves that small phones can also do what bigger ones can, despite the limited space.

Battery and Charging

The vivo X200 FE boasts an enormous 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is really impressive for the device’s size. That said, it’s no surprise it got high scores in our tests.

In fact, it has one of the best scores we got for high-end phones we’ve tested. It’s only second to the realme GT 7 Dream Edition, which is understandable since it has 500mAh more battery capacity.

For a compact phone, we’re still very impressed. It lasted for 20 hours and 21 minutes in PCMark synthetic battery test, and 20 hours and 21 minutes in our 1080p YouTube Video Loop Test. Heavy users can easily get a whole day of use out of this, maybe some more for the next day.

vivo-X200-Charging

The big battery is also paired with a fast 90W wired charging. A quick 15-minute charge gets you 0-24% in just 15 minutes. A full charge takes about an hour. The lack of wireless charging is disappointing, though. See our charging test results below:

  • 15mins 0-24%
  • 30mins: 46%
  • 45mins: 72%
  • 1hr: FULL

Verdict

The vivo X200 FE, thanks to its impressive hardware packed into a compact body, is easily one of the most interesting high-end phones on the market right now.

vivo-X200-FE-Unboxing

It offers a fast and fluid performance, great image quality, extensive software support, and of course, a long and dependable battery life aptly paired with fast charging.

The best part is, vivo managed to cram all that hardware inside a compact body that you can easily use with just one hand — something very rare in this age of large, gigantic phones.

vivo-X200-FE-Review-5790

While we do love its size, the limitations of the small screen may not please everyone. Also, the lack of wireless charging is disappointing, and the ultra-wide lens could use a better sensor.

But overall, the vivo X200 FE is a seamless mixture of form and function, making it one of the best devices for its price point.
