The vivo Y500 has been introduced in China, and it carries a gigantic battery — possibly the biggest on any vivo phone and one of the largest in its category.
Boasting a massive 8,200mAh battery, the vivo Y500 has to thank silicon-carbon technology for having an 847Wh/L battery density while retaining a reasonable thickness of just 8.2mm.
As per vivo, this battery will let you use GPS navigation for 21 hours or continuously watch a video for 24.6 hours. It also supports reverse charging, so you can share the battery with other devices.
It’s been appropriately paired with a 90W wired adapter and features 24 levels of charging protection that keep it protected from high current, voltage, and even device temperature.
Moving on, the Y500 comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Since its first coming out in China, it ships with Android 15-based OriginOS 5.
vivo also made a big deal of its IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance, which they claim can survive being submerged up to 1.5 meters of water depth for over 24 hours and pressureized water jets at up to 80°C.
It also has vivo’s 360-degree drop cushioning design that uses internal shock absorbers. Meanwhile, the 6.77-inch AMOLED screen is protected by Diamond Shield Glass.
An 8-megapixel camera is on the front, while the rear has a 50-megapixel main shooter joined by a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
The vivo Y500 8GB/128GB retails for CNY1,399 (~Php11,200), CNY1,599 (~Php12,800) for the 8GB/256GB, and CNY1,799 (~Php14,400) for the 12GB/256GB, while the 12GB/512GB comes in at CNY1,999 (~Php16,100). It will be available in China starting September 5, while international release details have not been confirmed.
