Samsung has announced plans to spend more than Php50 billion to build a new manufacturing plant in the Philippines.

The company, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp. (SEMPHIL), will invest Php50.7 billion to produce multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). These components are vital for the operation of electric cars and advanced smart devices. The facility is slated to open for business in July 2027 and is expected to provide employment for more than 3,500 Filipinos.

The commitment was secured during discussions between a Philippine delegation and top leaders of SEMCO, SEMPHIL’s parent firm, held alongside the 32nd APEC Summit in South Korea.

SEMPHIL already has a substantial presence in the country. Operating from the Calamba Premiere International Park, the company reported having 7,000 employees at the end of 2024. Its existing Philippine operations already account for close to half of SEMCO’s total global output of MLCCs.

This new project is the first to qualify for financial incentives under the CREATE MORE Act (RA No. 12066). This law provides qualifying businesses with tax benefits to encourage large-scale investments. These perks can include periods of exemption from income tax, reduced corporate income tax rates, and improved deductions. The support also extends to VAT exemptions on imports and local supplies.
