UnionBank has introduced a new feature called “Mobile Tap to Pay” to its UnionBank Online app. This feature allows customers to make payments directly from their phones without needing their physical debit or credit cards.

The service is designed for use with any Android device that has Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Once activated in the app, users can pay by simply tapping their phone on any Visa contactless payment terminal. This system works at millions of locations worldwide, from local stores to international retailers.

Security for the new payment method is handled through Visa’s tokenization technology. This system replaces a user’s actual card number with a unique, encrypted code for each transaction. This means sensitive financial details are never stored on the phone or shared with merchants.

To use the feature, customers can activate it within the UnionBank Online app and link their preferred UnionBank Visa debit or credit card. After activation, the tap to pay function can be accessed quickly from the app’s login screen using biometric authentication, like a fingerprint or facial recognition.
