A sequel to the popular animated show “KPop Demon Hunters” has been reportedly confirmed. However, fans will need to wait until 2029 for its release. The project is moving forward following a new deal between Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation.

According to the report by Bloomberg, the lengthy production timeline is due to the complex nature of animation. The studios have stated they are dedicating significant time to ensure the sequel meets the high expectations set by the first movie.

That first movie became a global hit upon its release in June. It quickly rose to number one on Netflix and stayed there for weeks, breaking records to become the platform’s most-watched original film. Its soundtrack also saw huge success, topping music charts worldwide.

The massive fan demand made the sequel a high priority, but the original partnership between Sony Pictures Animation, which produced the film, and Netflix, which distributed it, created a complicated rights situation. This made negotiations for a follow-up film a challenging process.

While the target release date is 2029, this could shift depending on production. For now, the confirmation assures fans that the world of “KPop Demon Hunters” will eventually return.
