A major new cooperative game is in the works from a celebrated designer and a famous Hollywood producer. The title, “4:LOOP,” comes from Mike Booth, known for his work on “Left 4 Dead,” and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Games. It was first shown during The Game Awards 2025.
This project marks the first full in-house development from Bad Robot Games, the video game branch of Abrams’ production company. The game is a science-fiction take on squad-based shooting, where a team of four fights through hostile mechanical and extraterrestrial forces.
According to details shared by Booth, the gameplay focuses on completing missions to lure out a giant alien mothership for a final confrontation. After each successful mission, players can select upgrades to customize their gear, preparing for a large boss fight that concludes each chapter. Beating all three chapters results in destroying the Mothership. Booth noted that this objective is challenging to accomplish.
The structure includes elements commonly found in rogue-like games, suggesting a repeating cycle of missions where players retain some progress between attempts, even after failing.
Sony confirmed it will handle publishing duties for 4:LOOP. The game is planned for release on the PlayStation 5 console and PC, though a launch window has not been provided. Interested gamers can submit their information for future updates through the game’s official website.
