Gearbox Software has unveiled the first additional hero joining the lineup for Borderlands 4. This new playable character, a robot called C4SH, will arrive after the game’s launch as part of a paid DLC expansion.

C4SH’s backstory reveals he was once a mechanical dealer in a casino. His journey will connect directly with the first major DLC story, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned,” a campaign setting that promises encounters with otherworldly monsters guarding strange treasures.

From a gameplay perspective, C4SH will bring a gambler’s spirit to the fight. He will feature three special abilities, with a twist that each of his skills incorporates a random element, making every use a bit of a gamble. This high-risk, high-reward approach can pay off with great results, from empowering his entire team to unleashing overwhelming attacks on enemies. Developers plan to share the complete details of his move set in the future.

There are a few ways players can immediately add C4SH to their roster upon his release. He is automatically available for anyone who purchased the “Super Deluxe Edition” of Borderlands 4. In addition, he can also be obtained by buying the standalone “Vault Hunter Pack,” or through the purchase of the “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned” story expansion.

Alongside this premium character DLC, the developers reiterated their commitment to free post-launch support for all players. This will include limited-time seasonal activities and extremely challenging boss enemies.

The paid content roadmap also includes smaller, narrative-focused “Bounty Packs.” These will introduce brief new story missions, fresh equipment to acquire, and cosmetic items. A “Vault Card” system tied to these packs will provide another way to earn rewards through normal gameplay.
