Electronic Arts (EA) announced that it will end support for The Sims Mobile, with the game becoming completely unplayable in early 2026. The decision marks the conclusion of an eight-year run for this particular version of the popular life simulation franchise.
The company stated that the last update released will be the game’s final one. After that, the online servers are scheduled to be shut down on January 20, 2026. At that point, the game will no longer be accessible. Effective immediately, players are no longer able to make real-money purchases within the app. Furthermore, the game will be removed from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store as soon as tomorrow.
Since its launch in 2018, The Sims Mobile has received more than 50 updates, building a dedicated player base. Its closure coincides with a significant transitional period for the wider Sims franchise.
While the main PC title, The Sims 4, continues to operate, EA is quietly developing its next-generation project, known internally as “Project Rene.” This new game is anticipated to be a cross-platform experience, playable on both computers and mobile devices. This strategy could make a separate, mobile-only title like The Sims Mobile redundant in the company’s future portfolio.
The long-term roadmap for Project Rene, however, is not yet fixed. The project is still in its early development phases. At the same time, EA is navigating a massive $55 billion deal to become a privately held company.
