The iconic vertical platformer Icy Tower, which became a global phenomenon in the early 2000s, is officially being rebuilt for a modern audience. The game is scheduled to launch on Steam in 2026, coinciding with its 25th anniversary.
Developed by the original creators, Johan Peitz and Anders “Neo” Svensson, the new version is a from-the-ground-up reimagining of the classic. The indie studio Apskeppet is leading the project, promising to preserve the game’s signature “just one more try” appeal while introducing new polish and mechanics.

The game challenges players to guide a character, Harold the Homeboy, up an endless tower by making precise jumps. The core gameplay loop remains focused on chaining jumps together to build combos and achieve massive scores. This new version will feature crisp pixel art, a live-recorded soundtrack, and smooth animations.
Originally released in 2001, the simple yet addictive game spread worldwide and amassed more than 40 million players, making it a standout indie hit of its era. Its return aims to captivate both longtime fans and a new generation of players when it climbs onto PC next year.
