The Social Security System (SSS) has launched a new card for its members. Called the MySSS Card, it serves two main purposes. It acts as an official ID for SSS transactions and also works as a debit card for everyday spending.
The SSS started accepting applications for this new card on October 1. The card is designed to make it easier for members to get their benefits, loans, and pensions. RCBC is the first bank to partner with the SSS for this program, though other banks will be added later.
This means members can use the card to withdraw cash or pay for things. It can be used for shopping, buying items online, and even for paying public transportation fares.
While old UMID cards are still valid, the new card is meant to replace them. The MySSS Card has a security chip and uses the National ID system and biometrics, like facial scans, to help prevent fraud.
How to apply for the new MySSS Card
You can apply for the card online through the official My.SSS Member Portal. Here is a step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Log in to your My.SSS account. If you do not have one, you can register on the same website.
Step 2: Go to the “Services” menu and select the “MySSS Card” option.
Step 3: Check your personal information and update it if anything is wrong.
Step 4: The website will ask for your consent to verify your identity using your National ID photo. You will then need to complete a facial scan.
Step 5:You will be asked to choose a partner bank. For now, RCBC is the only option, but the SSS says other banks will be available soon.
Step 6: Agree to the terms and conditions, including allowing the SSS to share your data with your chosen bank.
After you finish, you will see a confirmation message and receive an email.
Step 7: After applying, you need to complete the process with the bank. You can use the bank’s mobile app or visit a branch to finish the verification and pay any required fees. You can also pay an extra fee to have the card delivered to your home.
The bank will send you a notification by app or text message when your card is ready.
Be aware that the application fee depends on the bank you choose. You must pay the fee within the bank’s deadline, or your application will be cancelled.
If you live in Metro Manila, your card should be ready within 15 working days after your bank account is opened. For those outside the capital, it may take up to 20 working days.
Once you have the card, it will immediately be set up to receive all your future SSS benefits.
