A group of university students from the Philippines has earned recognition at this year’s Google-ADB Asia Pacific Solution Challenge for developing an AI system that improves waste management. The annual competition invites young innovators across the region to create tech solutions for global problems using Google’s artificial intelligence tools.
The winning team from Holy Angel University in Pampanga, consisting of Josh Gorospe, Angelica Mae Tadique, Eisha Janel Tablante Alva, and Joaquin Galang, received the People’s Choice Award along with a $1,000 prize. Their project uses AI to monitor and optimize waste disposal processes, offering a smarter approach to environmental sustainability.
Google executives praised the students for their practical application of AI technology. The Asian Development Bank also commended the competition’s participants.
Other winning projects included an AI-based emergency response system from South Korea and smart solutions from teams in Pakistan, Japan, and Indonesia. The event highlighted how student-led innovations are shaping the future of technology across the Asia-Pacific region.
