A new version of Affinity, an app for creatives, has been beefed up and redesigned. Plus, it’s now completely free for everyone.

Affinity is going through big changes after Canva’s acquisition in March 2024.

The company said they are making the service free after hearing frustrations from the creative industry regarding rising software costs, frustrating subscriptions, and the fact that they have to juggle between different apps just to achieve a desired output.

Hence, the reason why it’s now free, subscription-free, and transformed into a unified creative app for designers, illustrators, and photographers.

The app becomes a complete editing software with layer support and support for files like PDF, SVG, PSD, and more.

You can look at it as a more professional-oriented version of Canva, giving you more granular and advanced tools. Oh, and since they are now under the same company, Affinity works alongside Canva’s platform. That includes the platform’s extensive AI tools.

The updated software is also built on a new and high-performance engine, so it can support detailed edits at 10,000,000% zoom and projects with “thousands of layers.”
