Canon has unveiled the EOS R8 II, a 24-megapixel full-frame camera with a boxier body that takes after the vintage EOS 650 film SLR. It also adds a joystick for moving the autofocus point, which the older R8 lacked.
The Canon EOS R8 II camera shoots at 40 frames per second with continuous autofocus and auto exposure. It also fits 58 percent more JPEGs and 30 percent more RAW files into a single burst.
It has 5-axis in-body stabilization that cuts shake by up to 7.5 stops with compatible lenses. At 546 grams, Canon calls it the lightest full-frame camera with this feature.
Autofocus uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, covering the whole frame and tracking people, animals, and vehicles. Users can also register specific people for tracking, and pre-continuous shooting captures up to 20 frames before the shutter is fully pressed.
Video records 4K 60p oversampled from the full 6K sensor width, plus uncropped 1080p at 180 frames per second. It supports 10-bit 4:2:2 capture with Canon Log3 at up to 250 Mbps.
The rear screen is a 3-inch vari-angle panel with 1.62 million dots. The viewfinder has 2.36 million dots. The LP-E17 battery lasts about 340 shots in power saving mode.
The Canon EOS R8 II is up for pre-order at $1,899 (~Php119,000) and ships in late October. A kit with the RF24-50mm F/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens costs $2,099 (~Php131,000). Pricing and availability in PH are still unknown.
