GoPro has launched a new action camera aimed at adventurers who film after the sun goes down. The latest model, called the GoPro Lit Hero, features something new: a ring of four LED lights built directly around the camera lens.

This design means that if you are shooting in a dark environment, like on a night hike or a bike ride, you may not need to carry an extra light source. The integrated LEDs are intended to illuminate the scene directly in front of the camera.

Beyond the lighting, the camera also gets a video recording upgrade. It can capture 4K video at 60 frames per second, an improvement over the standard model’s 4K at 30 frames per second. Battery life is estimated at 100 minutes when recording at the highest quality with the LEDs switched off. Despite the new features, the Lit Hero is only slightly heavier, weighing 93 grams compared to the basic version’s 86 grams.

The camera maintains the same waterproof rating as other Hero models, allowing it to be used underwater as deep as 16 feet. The built-in lights could be useful for brightening up close-range underwater scenes. GoPro also includes a diffuser accessory to soften the harshness of the LEDs for more flattering shots of people’s faces.

The GoPro Lit Hero is available for pre-order now at a cost of $269.99 (~Php15,700). That’s around 70 dollars more than the standard GoPro Hero, which remains on the market for $199.99(~Php11,600).
