OpenAI has decided to pull its Sora artificial intelligence video platform from the market, ending a consumer-focused project that debuted less than six months ago.
The company made the announcement on X, where it told users it was time to say goodbye to the platform. The closure marks a quick reversal for a product that was widely seen as one of the most ambitious consumer AI releases in recent memory.
OpenAI mentioned that it would share a timeline for the shutdown in the coming weeks. It also promised to give users instructions on how to save any projects they had started before the app goes offline.

As of late, OpenAI is under the microscope regarding its financial health. Even though its products attract roughly one billion daily users around the world, the company is dealing with expenses that are growing faster than its income.
This change in strategy appears to have been set in motion earlier this month. Reports indicate that Fidji Simo, who leads applications at OpenAI, warned staff against chasing what she referred to as “side quests.” Instead, she encouraged the team to concentrate on agentic AI, a type of technology designed to handle tasks independently, such as data analysis and software development.
