Winamp is making a comeback. The classic desktop music player will get a new version in the first half of 2027, and it will come with a monthly streaming subscription.
The new Winamp streaming service will run on Deezer’s technology and music catalog. It will sit alongside the original Winamp, which is still available for download today. The old app is not going away, at least for now.
Winamp first came out in 1997. It was a common way to play music on computers long before Spotify existed.
The new version will work like a streaming service, but users can still play their own files, podcasts, and internet radio. The company has not said how much the subscription will cost.
Winamp previously shared a similar plan back in 2018, but it never happened. It’s not clear yet if this new plan will work out.
