If you are going to choose between working from home or working remotely (as it is also known) versus coming to the workplace, which will it be? The Filipino youth has chosen the former.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), more young people prefer a work-from-home setup. “We are observing a dynamic shift, where young people are increasingly seeking not just any job, but meaningful work that aligns with evolving global demands.” Says Labor Undersecretary, Carmela Torres.

She further notes that this means there are more professionals whose interests lie in flexible work arrangements (meaning both working from home and coming to the office), as well as a preference for digitally driven roles and a contribution to sustainable practices.

As a result, Torres hopes that the government can be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the labor force emerging today. Torres also emphasized the need to accommodate training and employment strategies to meet the ambitions and skills of young professionals. In a nutshell, according to Torres, the government must ensure that today’s generation is prepared for employment.

As of April 2025, the country’s youth labor force has risen to an estimated 6.415 million, with around 88 percent of 5.67 currently employed.
