Apple is working on a more affordable MacBook powered by an iPhone processor instead of its higher-end M-series chips, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The new model, expected to enter production in late 2025 or early 2026, could help Apple reach budget-conscious buyers with a lower price tag than the current MacBook Air.
In a post on X, Kuo said the laptop will use Apple’s A18 Pro chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 16 Pro models. The device may come in multiple colors, including yellow, pink, and silver, and will likely keep the 13-inch screen size of the MacBook Air. Performance differences between the A18 Pro and M-series chips may be minimal for everyday tasks, though benchmarks show the A18 Pro lags behind in multi-core processing.
The A18 Pro matches the original M1 chip from 2020, which many users still find capable to this day. Depending on the use case, this chipset should be able to provide more than good enough performance.
Apple reportedly aims to produce 5 to 7 million units in 2026. While the exact cost is unknown, it would mark Apple’s first attempt to undercut its own $999 MacBook Air.
