Apple has put the development of a follow-up to its thinner iPhone Air on hold, according to a new report.

The successor, tentatively called the iPhone Air 2, was originally scheduled for release in the autumn of 2026. It was expected to debut at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro. However, Apple is now reportedly reconsidering its entire strategy for this product line.

A detailed report from The Information states that the slim design of the iPhone Air has not been a successful bet for Apple. As a result, the tech giant has begun to wind down manufacturing of the current phone.

This pullback is evident at Apple’s supply factories. One of its partners, Luxshare, had already ended all assembly of the iPhone Air by the end of October. Another key supplier, Foxconn, is also preparing to stop making the model before November ends.

While there was considerable excitement before its launch, the iPhone Air ultimately disappointed many users. Critics pointed to its short battery life, its single-lens camera system, and its high cost as reasons to avoid the device.

This trend appears to extend beyond Apple. The report also mentions that Samsung’s similar experiment with a Galaxy S25 Edge model was unsuccessful. As a result, the South Korean company has also allegedly canceled its plans for a Galaxy S26 Edge.
