Apple is developing its first foldable iPhone. And according to a new report by Mark Gurman, it will be a high-end device with a unique design and a premium price tag.
The design is said to resemble two of Apple’s new iPhone Airs connected side by side. When closed, it would look and feel like a standard iPhone. Unfolding it would reveal a larger single screen, creating a device that is both sleek and familiar to Apple users. The frame is expected to be made from titanium, a material chosen to make the device more durable while keeping it incredibly thin.
This first-generation foldable iPhone is not intended for everyone. Early estimates suggest it will cost at least $2,000, with some predictions placing the final price between $2,100 and $2,300. This would make it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold.
The strategy appears to be similar to the approach taken with the Vision Pro headset. Instead of targeting mass market sales immediately, Apple plans to use this model to showcase its advanced design and engineering capabilities. The company will gauge the market’s response before developing future versions.
Production for this complex foldable iPhone will reportedly remain in China. While Apple has been working to diversify its manufacturing to other countries like India, products that require specialized technical expertise are expected to stay with its established partners in China for the time being.
The anticipated launch window is set for the fall of 2026, alongside the expected iPhone 18 models. But like other Apple products, the release could be delayed if it’s not yet ready for the public.
