For years, the WiFi hotspot has been a simple, single-purpose gadget: a puck-shaped device that provides an internet connection. But what if it could do more? What if it could also be your portable speaker, your secondary screen for streaming videos, and even a camera for video calls and content creation?

This is the future that Philippine telecommunications leader Globe is betting on with its latest product. In partnership with global technology company, rainx, Globe has introduced the “Globe AT HOME 5G WiFi loop” at the Blueprint event, an ambitious new gadget that seeks to combine a powerful 5G technology with the features of a modern all-in-one portable home entertainment system. The company also says it’s the first to launch loop in the world.

The loop, which is now available in select Globe stores nationwide, is designed to break the traditional model of home internet. It delivers fiber-like speeds through 5G technology but is also built for portability. It promises to be a shared WiFi hub for a family at home, and then just as easily be unplugged and taken on a road trip, to a park, or to a cafe, bringing the entire household’s internet connection along with it.

According to Darius Delgado, Globe’s Chief Commercial Officer, Globe AT HOME 5G WiFi loop can provide fast internet speed, WiFi 6, and support for up to 16 devices connected at the same time.

Earlier this year, NOYPIGEEKS along with other tech publications in PH, were given an early sneak peek of the loop by Globe and rainx executives, where they discussed the features and use cases for this device. At first glance, the loop resembles a large smartphone or a mini entertainment system, but its purpose is fundamentally different. Its core function is to provide a personal 5G internet connection for multiple users with support for WiFi 6 technology. This makes it ideal for families where each member has a phone, tablet, or laptop without a fixed broadband subscription.

Where the loop differs from a standard hotspot is in its additional features. It boasts a huge touchscreen interface, high-quality built-in speakers, and a hands-free camera.

The loop’s Android operating system is the key to its versatility. Users are not limited to just connecting to the internet, they can also interact with it directly on the device. A family could set it up in the kitchen to stream music from Spotify while making dinner. Children could use it to watch videos on YouTube or browse social media feeds without needing to borrow their parent’s phones. The built-in camera also enables quick group selfies without needing a stand or tripod. And if you’re a content creator, you may also use it to shoot photos and videos for social media platforms.

The device’s 8,500mAh battery is designed for hours of use. If used primarily as a hotspot, the battery could potentially last for many hours, far longer than most smartphones. This makes it a practical companion for long days away from a power outlet.

To get internet connectivity, users can choose from Globe’s various data promos, including a Php299 plan for unlimited 5G access for one week, a Php899 package for 250GB of data valid for 30 days, or a Php999 plan for unlimited 5G for one month.

Globe’s vision appears to be about creating a new lifestyle product category. Instead of a purely utilitarian internet box, the loop is presented as a device for shared experiences. It is a portable entertainment center, a social media hub, and a connectivity tool all in one.

The Globe At Home 5G WiFi loop is priced at Php10,999. Every loop device will come with 30 days of unlimited 5G data connectivity, giving customers a month to test its capabilities as both a home broadband replacement and a mobile entertainment system.
