Globe Telecom, using Nokia’s Fixed Wireless Access system, conducted 5G mmWave tests in Zamboanga City and achieved speeds of up to 4.3Gbps.

The company reported that, in tests conducted at the Marine Battalion Landing Team-1 headquarters in Naval Station Rio Hondo, they achieved a speed of 4.3Gbps at a distance of 2.1 kilometers.

A separate test conducted about 9 kilometers away achieved a much slower but still impressive speed of 1Gbps. The Philippine Marines use such a setup to aid in base-level connectivity.

For the trials, Globe uses the mmWave and WiFi 7 equipment provided by Nokia.

Globe added that they are currently installing mmWave tech in Zamboanga City, Quezon City, and select areas in Rizal.

With more compatible devices reaching the Philippine shore, Globe said that it plans to expand the deployment of the technology.

Such tech can be used for government communications, enterprise operations, and as a fixed broadband option in remote areas in the Philippines.
