A new agreement will use satellite technology to provide high-speed internet to Philippine government agencies operating in remote locations. PLDT’s business division, PLDT Enterprise, is partnering with SMS Global Technologies, Inc. (SMSGT) to deploy satellite internet from Starlink.

This initiative is designed to support public services in geographically isolated areas that lack reliable land-based internet connections. SMSGT, a technology systems provider established in 1995, will use the Starlink hardware and service, supplied by PLDT Enterprise, for its projects with various government bodies.

The satellite-based connection will enable essential online functions for agencies working in off-grid communities, helping ensure that citizens in these areas receive necessary services.

PLDT executive Blums Pineda also highlighted the partnership’s role in national progress. This collaboration allows SMSGT to equip government units with reliable internet, which is crucial for their work in distant communities.

President and CEO of SMSGT SMSGT Anthony Christian Angeles explained that the partnership addresses a specific need for sturdy connectivity in challenging environments, where finding a dependable internet solution for remote project sites has been a priority. This service enables them to deliver on their goal of bridging the digital divide for the hardest-to-reach areas.
