If there’s one hobby and even a full-time job that this generation invests in, it’s becoming an influencer.

Coming from the career name itself, an influencer influences the general public, usually through their content, to buy products, try services, or even become future content creators and influencers themselves.

Many people, particularly the young, aim to become influencers; however, scientists are investigating risky personality traits associated with this path.

Researchers based in Poland’s University of Wroclaw and Oxford published an article in the Telematics and Informatics journal, discovering that people who tend to be extraverted, self-absorbed, and dramatic are more inclined to pursue life as influencers.

The researchers invited 800 participants, ages 16 to 17, most of whom are Polish, while the others are based in the United Kingdom. They mostly asked the teens about their future careers and dream jobs.

The participants were also asked to answer a questionnaire assessing how strongly they are drawn to the “Big Five” personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. The questionnaire also measures how dramatic these young respondents are.

As a result, people who exhibit a sensational personality or a dramatic flair are more interested in becoming influencers. Especially those who are more expressive, scientists found out that this connects to the desire of being seen and validated.

In addition, there have been studies on how the audience perceives the personalities of content creators, but this is the first study explicitly done on the traits of the influencers and what made them pursue this career.

What do you think of influencers”? Do most of them have these kinds of traits? Let us know your thoughts.
