Snapchat is releasing two major new features that were highly requested by its users. The first, called “Infinite Retention,” finally allows users to stop their messages from disappearing. The second introduces “Group Streaks,” a new way to build streaks with multiple friends at once.
The company announced that Infinite Retention is a new chat setting. Until now, users had to manually tap on individual messages to save them. With this new feature, you can simply turn on a setting for any conversation to keep the entire chat history forever, much like other messaging apps.
Snapchat says this feature has been in testing since early 2024 and is now rolling out to all users. When one person turns on Infinite Retention in a one-on-one chat, the other person will be notified. Both people have control over the setting; either one can choose to turn it off for that conversation. This lets users decide which friendships they want to keep a permanent record with.

The other new feature is Group Streaks. The original Snapchat streak requires two people to send a photo or video snap to each other every 24 hours to maintain their streak counter. The new Group Streak works with multiple friends, making it easier to keep a streak alive because several people can contribute each day.
If a Group Streak is broken, users now have a one-week grace period to restore it, which is a new option not available for individual streaks.
Snapchat stated that these changes are a direct response to user feedback, noting that many in its community wanted a way to save their chats forever and build streaks with their favorite groups.
