Samsung has started delivering the One UI 8 software update to users. The update introduces a range of features focused on more intuitive artificial intelligence and enhanced data protection.

The deployment starts this week, with the recently launched Galaxy S25 series being the first to receive it. The company plans to expand the rollout in the coming months to include last year’s models, such as the Galaxy S24 series, the Galaxy Z Fold6, Z Flip6, and more.

A central part of One UI 8 is its advanced AI, which aims to understand a user’s context by analyzing what they see, hear, and do. This allows the system to provide helpful, personalized suggestions throughout the day without being asked.

Several existing features have been upgraded as well. The Now Brief information hub will offer more tailored daily updates, including traffic conditions and personal reminders. On the Galaxy Z Flip, the external FlexWindow will display more information from third-party apps and media playback controls without needing to open the phone.

New AI tools developed with Google are also included. Gemini Live enables users to have conversational, voice-based interactions with the AI assistant. The popular Circle to Search feature now works with mobile games; circling an item on screen will pull up strategy guides and character information. It also provides smoother, real-time translations over foreign text in apps and on websites.

Security receives a major focus in this update. Samsung is introducing a new system called Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP). Its job is to wall off an app’s sensitive data in a secure, encrypted space that other apps cannot access. The existing Knox Matrix security now has the ability to automatically log a device out of a Samsung account if it detects a serious threat. Connections to public Wi-Fi are also safer thanks to upgraded encryption designed to resist future hacking methods.

Practical new functionalities include an Audio Eraser tool that can remove background noise like wind from videos with a single tap. The lock screen clock has been redesigned to adapt to and wrap around the user’s wallpaper for better visibility. The update also makes it easier to move AI-generated text and images between apps on tablets and larger screens.

Other additions provide creative and accessibility options, such as the ability to create artistic portrait styles for pet photos and Call Captions, which transcribes a caller’s speech into text in real-time during a phone call.
