A new analysis from a prominent Japanese financial firm indicates that Apple is recalibrating its iPhone production strategy due to the lower demand for iPhone Air.
The report from Mizuho Securities say that Apple will reduce iPhone Air output by one million units for 2025. Nikkei Asia even claims that Apple is reducing it to near “end of production” levels. On the other hand, the company will simultaneously ramp up production of its other new models. The combined production for the standard iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will be increased by two million units.
This production pivot follows early sales figures. The higher-end iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are reportedly outperforming their predecessors, the iPhone 16 Pro models, from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 is seeing notably strong sales, easily surpassing the launch performance of the basic iPhone 16 model.
The iPhone Air is the exception in an otherwise successful lineup. Despite this adjustment, Apple’s overall confidence is growing. The company has raised its total manufacturing forecast for the entire iPhone 17 family. It now aims to produce 94 million units by early 2026, an increase from its initial goal of 88 million.
