Google announced that its digital wallet platform, Google Wallet, is officially available in the Philippines.

The service arrives after years of anticipation from Filipinos longing for a more convenient and faster way to make cashless transactions.

To start, download the Google Wallet app, which is now available from the Google Play Store. This is where users can set up an account and link their cards from participating banks, services, etc.

Once set, they can use their Android phones or Wear OS smartwatches to settle transactions in merchants accepting contactless payments. It can also be used for online merchants like Shopee or anywhere where a Google Pay button is available.

Apart from bank cards, Google Wallet can also be used to store boarding passes, digital keys, event and cinema tickets, loyalty cards (Ikea, Mang Inasal), and digital vouchers.

You can see the initial list of services that Google Wallet supports below. Note that more companies will jump on board soon.

Google Wallet is launching right alongside that energy, offering Pinoys a single, secure digital space to manage their payments, travels, and daily transactions. Whether it’s the quick ‘tap-and-pay’ for your favorite restaurant, booking a trip across the islands, or shopping online, Google Wallet keeps your essentials protected and always at your fingertips. This launch underscores our enduring commitment to accelerating financial inclusion and fueling the next chapter of the Philippines’ dynamic digital economy,” said Google Philippines Country Manager Prep Palacios.

With Google Pay finally launching in the Philippines, it won’t be long until Apple Pay follows suit.
