Five years. That’s how long Apple made us wait. The original AirPods Max debuted in December 2020, and fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since. At long last, Apple has delivered the AirPods Max 2 and it’s packed with enough upgrades to make the wait worthwhile.
The original AirPods Max felt outdated the moment it launched, missing key features that the AirPods Pro line had offered for years. The biggest letdown? It ran on the older H1 chip. Now, the AirPods Max 2 brings Apple’s H2 processor, the same silicon powering the AirPods Pro 3.
The H2 chip enables a suite of intelligent features that finally bring Apple’s flagship headphones in line with its earbuds.

Adaptive Audio blends Transparency mode with ANC, intelligently filtering out distracting sounds while letting important ones through. Conversation Awareness detects when you start speaking and automatically lowers volume to let voices in. There’s also Loud Sound Reduction protects your hearing in genuinely loud environments, while Personalized Volume learns your preferences over time.
Apple AirPods Max 2’s Live Translation lets users hear real-time translations directly into their ears, but it’s currently limited in the supported languages. The new Voice Isolation also improves call quality in noisy environments. You can also nod or shake your head to respond to Siri prompts.
The Cupertino company claims active noise cancellation is now “up to 1.5x more effective” than the first generation. Given that the original AirPods Max already ranked among the best ANC headphones when I tested them against the competition just last year, this could very well make the Max 2 the new king of noise cancellation.

Apple hasn’t touched the drivers, but it’s added a new high dynamic range amplifier. The goal? This means it still has the same neutral, spacious sound signature that made the original a favorite among audiophiles.
Wired audio fans get 24-bit/48kHz Hi-Res Audio over USB-C. Wireless high-resolution streaming remains absent, as there’s still no aptX or LDAC support.
The AirPods Max 2’s battery life remains capped at 20 hours with spatial audio and ANC enabled, which feels stingy when rivals are pushing 30+ hours. The design is virtually unchanged, and at 386.2g, it’s actually 1.4g heavier than before. The beloved green color is gone, replaced by Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple, and Orange options.
At Php34,990, the AirPods Max 2 starts shipping in April 2026 after orders open on March 25th. But for Apple loyalists who’ve been holding onto the original since 2020, this is probably the upgrade they’ve been waiting for.
